Well although the wedge may have to go ultimately i reckon i can keep hold of it for a couple of months yet so....................

What may prove to be my last chance of a mini road trip in the 450 i have decided to attend a family wedding this month on the 17th

Near Berwick upon Tweed: Ellingham Hall to be precise. Anyone know it?

Starting point is 20 miles SE of Norwich so i have given myself all day Friday 16th to drive up allowing time to have lunch and pop in for a cuppa with a couple of rellies

I have told current (?) Mrs Fawcett to wrap up cos the roof is coming off come what may.

Wish me look

There is an Ellingham Hall in Norfolk, too. You could go one to the other...

Ellingham Hall is a fabulous looking place. Check it out here Jimbo

http://www.ellingham-hall.co.uk/

We stayed near in Elligham with friends a few years ago in a lovely cottage
and were very jealous of people in this gorgeous Hall over a big wall next door

You can hire the place and it sleeps upto 32 I think
Would love to take over the place with a group of friends sometime

There are also some great roads and places to visit round there
Bamburgh, Alnwick, Lindisfarne etc

Cheers
Trickie

Jimbo, I am sorry to hear about your problems at the moment but I had to laugh at the above. Good man, roof off no matter what. Have you resigned yourself to the fact that a divorce is likely ? Hope everything turns out ok

Regards
Ian

Well we managed to get there and back in one piece. Roof down until just north of Grantham when we, err, broke down..............

Alternator bearing went! I new straight away so the nice man from RAC was called. Up to two hours before he would get to me i was told so i figured have lunch and see what happens. One thing was for sure....... he wasn't gonna have an alternator sitting in his van for the wedge, so i kind of resigned myself to making other arrangements as i still had 200 miles to go!

Anyway 'Nigel' turned up within half an hour or so and quickly confirmed that it was indeed the alternator and nothing else. So, what to do i ask?

"Well" says Nigel, "Hang on a minute". And off he disappears into his van.

A couple of minutes later Nigel appear. Holding a brand new Valeo 65 amp alternator for a 89-93 LDV Sherpa van!!

Yes yes i know 65 amps is probably a little under standard but it gets me back on the road!!

He offers it up and the mounting bracket etc are perfect!

20 minutes later and the alternator is on and the pulley lines up spot on. All it needed was some of the connections to be modified.

"How much?" I asked tentatively

"Well it's brand new but as it's my own i can't offer you a warranty. How does £50 sound?"

"That'll do nicely" I replied

From initial call to back on the road was 2 hours and i needed to stop for lunch anyway.

A result and a bit of luck for a change. 9 hours to get up there and 8 hours coming back on Sunday. Apart from the alternator the car couldn't have driven better. Straight as a die, smooth, and no tramlining at all after i stuck some Toyo Proxes on the front.

Here's a couple of pics chaps and check out the 'Mo'.................

Jim , just seen this , can't believe any of it as you have a really fantastic 450 there that many would love to have and well to have to part from the missus is very tough indeed , don't let any of this happen if you can.
