I've just bought a nice 02 E39 estate in silver. As far as I can tell the bodywork is great, apart from one small patch on the rear tailgate surround (body not the actual tailgate).

The patch is about the size of a thumbnail and hasn't broken through yet.

I'd prefer to get it fixed sooner rather than later, but no idea about the best route.

Is is possible to smart repair rust bubbles, or does it need a body shop?

Thanks

Both would likely go down the same route of sanding and filling the repair so results will be the same, it's up to you!

No sorry, if you needed someone in the birmingham/worcestershire area I might be able to help you, I'm sure someone will be along shortly to suggest someone though!

Although good advice id still check them out, being on the " smart map" does not automaticly mean good quality, anybody can go on it, just pay £40 and away you go.

Finding someone word or mouth is still by far the best option.

no nono there's criteria for getting on the map, but you are right in saying word of mouth is the best advertising.

As above .....
Would be SMART Map members have to convince quite a lot of seasoned pros that they know what they're doing, can do it properly and that their standard of work is worthy. Then if they meet certian criteria they are invited to join the map (in short any cowboys would be weeded out long before they were invited to join)
And on the home page it briefly outlines a code of conduct that members adhere to.

They must have made changes then because when I joined the smart map you only had to send £40 to a guy in Scotland and that was it, no checks or anything.

As far as I recall there has never been a charge to be on the map - I certainly never paid.
Are you sure you haven't got your wires crossed somewhere cos if your from Essex your I don't think you're on the map.
