Temp gauge not moving

My temperature gauge seems to have developed a problem - it's sticking on cold, when I turn the ign on there is very small movement but that's it. I've checked the archives and it seems that the sensor is most likely the problem.

Coolant levels are fine and fans operating as expected. Is there anything else I should check before finding and replacing the sensor?

The thing that worries me is that this seems to have started around about the time I was playing around with the hot water pipe to the heater matrix although I didn't disconnect the pipes fully, would this cause the same symptoms?

BTW it seems a bit intermittent and has worked as normal since playing with the heater matrix.

The wiring out by the sensor is also quite vulnerable. You can see the sensors screwed into the inlet manifold at the front of the engine; follow the big water pipe back to the thermostat housing, and that big lump of aluminium behind it is the inlet manifold.

Thanks for the help V8s, I had a look at the wiring and connections which look ok to me. I've had some advice from David Beer on testing it which I will do when I get in later.

Anybody know the part number for this, is it Land Rover part? I may try and get one and swap it over anyway.

The problem appears to be the temp sender as per the MrMaggit thread a while ago. The biggesh single green/blue wire going behind the dissy will lead you there.

I've still got the problem of getting a new one and fitting it in a very small space but am convinced it will work.
