Hi all! New poster here emerging from the shadows of PH so I thought I'd do a breif thread on my car (cue the Skoda jokes rolleyes )

Bought this to commute to university after having a troublesome corsa 1.0 for 2 years. After 4 months and 4000 miles in it I can honestly say I'm really chuffed with it smile Never missed a beat and thanks to it being a Skoda rather than it's Polo or Ibiza equivalent I could manage to get the white roof, 16" wheels and two tone interior and some other nice options for the same money as a boggo middle spec model of the others biggrin
Didnt really buy this with the intention of it being fun, the corsa bore the brunt of that wink Just something to hopefully see me through uni and into a job trouble free so I can up the income and get something with real potential! That said everyone seems to like the looks of it and although it lacks feel in general the width of the wheels mean it has quite a large amount of grip and the 1.2 3pot is really quite good (coming from a vauxhall 1.0 3pot)

I know this is PH rolleyes but if anyone has had experience with Fabia's or Skoda in general it would be great to know what you think of them!

Welcome to PH, well done for finally posting. I'm afraid you won't find any skoda jokes here as it's well liked marque (particularly for the Octavia vRS).

Welcome! Really nice looking superminis these, especially with the contrasting roof.

Very nice, grey with white roof really suits it!

Not sure I could live with those seats though.

The seats don't look too bad with the colour of the car, in any care they are REALLY comfy!
Would definitely consider a VRS in the future, being the first in my family to move from Vauxhall (parents have a Signum and new Astra, grandparents a Corsa) to VAG the car is being checked up on by everyone to see whether it motors on trouble free unlike any of the other family motors...

Skoda Jokes ? Not from me ! My son has a VRS Fabia which courtesy of Awesome GTI goes like stink, it's actually more fun than my supercharged XFR, well for five miles or so.......My brother runs an Octavia Scout which tackles the snow very well indeed. Good cars Mate.

No Skoda jokes from me either, the Fabia is a great car. Feels well screwed together.

Very nice, enjoy! I looked at these a few years back, wanted it in orange with a white roof. That two-tone interior makes a world of difference, the sea of dark black of the basic models I found far too depressing. Surprisingly roomy car too.

Get yourself over to the briskoda.net forum - plenty of great Skoda advice and enthusiasts there.

You seem to be confusing PH with the outside world

PH as a rule loves Skoda

Yeah have seen a couple of black interior ones and body coloured roofs and IMO they don't look very nice like that (makes them look taller and dark maybe?)
Good to know PH doesn't show badge snobbery like many 'average Joe's' seem to smile
There are literally no rattles which is quite remarkable, having been in cars only a few months jiggling away down the road!

I'm lurking on briskoda too wink joined to check out the common faults which don't seem too bad, compared to the corsa anyway...

As above, definitely no Skoda hate here. Looks a really honest little car, OP, I have great respect for Skodas, my mum had a Fabia mk1, my sister has a Fabia mk1, and I'm considering an old B5 Superb.

ETA: Or an Octavia vRS! thumbup

Nice little car there mate, my sister has a similar one but a 1.9TDI, she's made up with it and much prefers it to the Seat Ibiza she had before.

Hi Rich, hope the Fabia's going well. You'll be pleased to hear the Octy found a good home.
(Sorry for the hijak)

Good to hear others who are enjoying their Skodas as much as me!
Just out of interest does anyone have much experience with brands of tyres for the fabia? Currently have Conti's on which seem quite good but are the age of the car and down to the last couple of mm of tread, will probably go for 4 more unless anyone has other advice?

I've had 5 MK2 Fabia VRS with either Dunlop Sport Maxx or Continental Contisport 2 or 3's (I think) and the car certainly felt better on the Conti's and was also quieter. Different car and wheel sizes so possibly info of no use at all I'm afraid!

Great cars. I'm on my 4th since 2002. Only problems I can remember over the years were a dodgy alternator replaced under warranty on the second Fabia and the rear washer pipe coming off on the 1.9 Octavia.

Fabia Combi Classic 1.4 8v
Fabia Combi Elegance 1.4 16v
Octavia Elegance 1.9 Pdi
Octavia Scout 1.8 Tsi

Tidy! Wish I had a car like that now, never mind at uni biggrin

Can any Skoda owners comment on what the whole "ownership" experience is like? I'm trying to convince my mother to look their way (Fabia like this, or a 1.2TSI incidentally) but she can't see beyond the badge...:/
