Essex police have set up an ANPR rig at the end of my road, went down to give them some support and suggest they moved to a better location around the corner where they'd catch a few speeders too.

Lovely day to be out in the sun, let's hope they nail a few.

I was coming down the A1 yesterday, in a posted 60mph limit of two-lane dual carriageway, and saw a camera van. I was very happy with its placing, it's a dangerous piece of road. The van's rear doors were open, with a camera monitoring each lane. Below each camera was a 2-3 foot square fluorescent yellow camera sign; you could not have missed it. A few hundred metres before there was a permanent "Police Speed Check Area" sign

Now that's good use of a camera - and why I stick to posted limits of 50 and below, or where there is an obvious reason for the limit to be there. And despite that, I made it 130 miles from Grantham to Isleworth in a touch under two hours.

Ahhh smart boy eh?

You'd think after 14 months of PH I'd have figured that one out huh?

I was merely suggesting that having 1 traffic car, a panda and two vans accompanied by another four officers (one female incidently who was by far the most friendly/talkative - one bloke just kept grinning at me insanely - somewhat disturbingly if the truth be known) standing around soaking up the sun, that if they'd moved up the road 150 metres to a nearby cross roads they'd be having a lot more work to do

It's real death trap infact, had a few close calls there as there is an uphill stretch that hits a right hander that goes over a bridge. There is a crossing point just after the bridge that is totally blind for both drivers and pedestrians. Plenty of people come up there (fnar fnar) at 40/45 mph. I've a few 'moments' there, especially with blonde bint Essex lasses in Mercs or BMWs, usually with a mobile phone glued to their ear.

Still, as I said, good to see plod out on the street doing what we'd like em to be doing.

I have a good idea.

Why don't we make third party insurance and road tax part of the fuel bill. Then we could sack all these useless tossers hanging around in vans and offer them jobs buiding more roads. In fact the roadbuilding programme would rapidly become huge. Half the judiciary, social services and of course the scameraships would be elligable to join. With a bit of re-jigging of the education system (ie closing some of the departments of posh and becks studies) we could have a lot of men with beards, cardigans and sandals joining also. In a short space of time we could have the finest roads in Europe, or the world even, at no extra cost.

Trouble with that Liebchen - the low mileage numpties who cause the accidents will not pay enough to cover the accidents they cause - and we sup duper drivers who drive couple of 100 miles per day to/from work end up subsidising their accidents even more .....

Rather see them pay up front - then I know I can sue the ....

Trouble is the low milage numpties already have the lowest premiums. Perhaps premiums should be based on combined diameters of zorsts divided by engine capacity
