I can't get in through http://213.52.163.118/ any more but have to use the real address.

Now they'll all know what I'm up to 95% of the working day

Best not to use the IP address as that can change from time to time.

Is there any other way of coming on here? I don't want www.pistonheads.com always showing as the most recently viewed address in my list

So make sure you always click onto peemasters.com after you've finished with PH.

Mine - www.planet-tvr.co.uk/ (under message board) as well as the TVR forums it also carries Speed Plod & Law and General Gassing (the only feed that does I think).

It has a fixed Planet-TVR URL in the frame but I don't know if the the pistonheads.com bit's show up on your server log when you access the seperate forums.

But then I guess the Planet-TVR bit is a give away too

or do what we used to do...

Build a webserver, stick a CGI proxy on it, connect via SSL, then the only requests that show up in the proxy logs are the connections to an SSL session...

Worked for us...

That won't actually work because all you're doing is displaying a frameset from gt3rs.co.uk with all the content coming from PH - the logs will be still be full of traffic from pistonheads.com.

If someone can suggest an innocuous domain name that's available I'll buy it as a "low profile" access point

Well, It depends on what DD was after.

I took it to mean he didnt want PH showing up as the most recently visited website, which would have been 'getroundable' vis the Frameset and Proxying,
however have just checked, and it seems Teds ASP doesnt like the proxying taking place.

example

http://gt3rs.co.uk/images/gassing.jpg

(proxy of www.pistonheads.com/gassing/images/gassing.jpg)

works,

but

http://gt3rs.co.uk/forum.asp?f=23&h=0

(proxy of www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?f=23&h=0) doesnt, there must be some header location / http refer checking / neccesity in there.

the method does work perfectly for most dymanicly linked websites..

ie those which link to /gassing/forum.asp?f=23&h=0
as opposed to statically linked

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?f=23&h=0

due to the way I have had our Forwarding coded.

Of course, non of this actually helps DD

given the way the links are coded/code is implemented, it looks rather difficult.

Just so long as when it comes to the annual review and I bring up pay-rises they can't bring up these forums and ask me to explain myself. That wouldn't be fun!

I would love it if there was no trace at all but as I have no control over the server logs then I'd rather there wasn't evidence plastered all over my laptop. That's why I've been using the IP address for the past year - plus it keeps the paranoia down everytime someone asks for 'a quick word'.

something which makes this place look like a nice little business/management ideas factory would be ideal

a forum I used to use had an "in the office" setting. Essentially it gave it bland colours, and no images.

I thought this was fantastic! As it happens, I don't display internet colours on my laptop anyway, but I thought the no images idea was great. The problem for Ted would be though that all the images are there for advertising.

To make it less "car website chat forum" obvious would be a real help to many people I'm sure!!!!! (or hinderence, depending on whether you are an employee or employer)

Might be able to cater to that to some extent in future.

There are lots of features to make websites look like black text on white background in Mozilla Firefox. Especially the web developer bar offers interesting options.
For simply usage, Ted may offer an alternative stylsheet, which can be switched from the bottom bar in Firefox by default (iirc).

This is an example from http://texturizer.net/firefox/

Could be made available only for logged in users, and ads appear in clear text with dotted line frame, rather than in animated gifs
