who hasn't got a swirlpot tell me after how many miles they fill it up? I've removed my swirlpot am going on a trip to wales (from the Netherlands) and don't know how far i can go untill it will run out of fuel because of the movement inside the tanks.

What kind of fuel do you use? It's all a bit different in our country. I use super unleaded 98 ron over here and don't want my car to start pinking!

Bernard, Hi, sorry can help you with the swill pot question, however i live on the England/N. Wales border and there are plenty of places which sell Super Unleaded as well as normal, although i think the super is 97RON and normal is 95, i'm sure folks will correct me if im wrong. You'll find most supermarkets with petrol stations sell super at atleast one pump.

If you want tell me roughly where youre going and i should be able to give you a few directions to petrol stations. Also i presume you'll be coming through Chester on your way out to Wales, watch out there are some nasty road works bunging the place up, again give me a rough idea of the route and i'll help if i can.

Regards
Iani

I fill up every 200 to 220 miles in my 350i, and get about 24 - 25 / gallon when touring. Can't help with the swirl pot question.

Thanks Iain for the advice! The locations of the petrol stations are no problem, i've got sat nav and every station is in there. As for our route, we arrive with the ferry in Hull, then drive to Blackpool and from there to Llangollen which will take us trough Chester. Is it better to follow the m6 a bit more south?? Do you use super unleaded?

The problem with my swirlpot is that it has a leak and i took it out and just connected the fuellines. The early wedges didn't have one at all so i was wondering how far they go before filling up.

Thanks,
Bernard

I try to fill her up when she gets below 1/4 tank. Running the pump dry is bad news as the fuel lubricates it. I've only once experienced fuel starvation when taking a long sweeping bend at high speed when the tank was very low. About every 150 miles

Bernard,
Right, Chester is my neck of the woods!!! Word of warning, Thelwall Viaduct is a nightmare (M6 Jct 20-21), (still) down to two lanes each way and a 40mph speed limit, if your're lucky...I've been north and seen stationary queues southbound as far as Charnock Richard services, sadly theres nothing you can do realistically to avoid it. Also the A51 is only one way atm (into Chester) it shouldnt affect you as i assume youre taking M53/A55/A483 to Llangollen. Just watch out there may be big queues at the exit of the A55 to the A51/A41 junction. (the BP garage just by the A55/A483 junction is open 24hrs if your planning on driving at night...)

(Sadly) I'm off on holiday tommorrow so wont bee able to come out and meet you guys, so I hope your trip.

Regards
Iain

I currently get 90 miles out of a tank. '86 350i. Mind you, it runs like a Maxwell House advert... "Really Rich"!
