I am contemplating having my 991 geometry set up. It has PDCC.

Has anyone used CG? What did it cost and was it worth it? Will the newness of the 991 or the presence of PDCC likely cause them problems?

Thoughts appreciated.

I had a complete overhaul of my GT2 suspension there earlier this year. Obviously my cost will differ from yours but he stuck to the quote in fact it came in a bit under.

Super professional bloke who really wouldn't stop at anything less than a perfect job. The car is sublime now and set up how I wanted it.

I would recommend them wholeheartedly and without any reservation.

I've met him and he seemed a nice enough guy, that was until he started rubbishing other suspension setup guys. I'm not keen on this kind of behaviour and it was unexpected as he is so well appreciated at what he does.

Anyway I dug a little deeper and found that he is well respected by many but not by certain others within the Trade. It basically came down to the fact he's great when the theory works out, but others have to put right when it fails. At this point, if he doesn't think the setup can't be wrong, it's not wrong; thats then when others have to put it right.
I've heard this from more than one source. One an ex WRC guru no less, so I'm inclined to believe it.

I will be flamed though, because so many rate him. Which is fair enough.

I think you've been living in a cave ?

A quick search revealed six pages of threads over the past five years on the Porsche forum alone.

So how much did it cost you?

Something I am trying to reconcile in my own head is how far wrong a new car can be. Is it a waste of time and money?

Blimey, some sort of axe to grind? This sort of stuff is what's bad about forums, third hand knowledge spouted as truth

CG is a top fella and would do a wonderful job for you. That's firsthand experience and opinion which you can take or leave.

CG is the ONLY good alignment specialist in the UK, and potentially Europe. If you go anywhere else, it will be a false economy regardless of how far you travel to get there. Your car will be transformed. You don't need to understand toe or camber, he does it all for you ! Your car will be so fast and generate so much more lateral grip and longitudinal traction, you won't need to use the brakes anymore nor ever change your tyres. And then you will join the ranks of the CG worshippers on PH !

No you are what is bad about forums.
You obviously didn't read all that I stated.
To go into more detail, I have Met him, Ive been to his workshop and met also his wife (well i think its his wife) and I got him to quote for a full suspension upgrade on my club sport.

He seemed like a great guy, but be surprised me when he started dishiinv competitors. There was no need. Though to be fair, he didn't point out an individual.

After further investigation, he may well be liked as a person, but in some circles in his profession he's not as rated as well as some of his punters suggest.

No doubt you'll put that down to professional envy. Fair enough, I'm just repeating what I've been told, and by persons who know what they are talking about.

You really should have read my post more thoroughly, it would be a shame if for all the positives about someone, you can't put a balanced other view across from another personal perspective who might not agree with you.

Here we go again on PH`s...

I met Chris at the recent PCGB event at that `Impney` place.

He spent a lot of his own time (and probably also paid his 2nd guy his normal rate) to attend the weekend, where he was speculating for business and talking to all of us without any commitment from us.

I really appreciated his tutorial on what everything does and or really should be doing.

In the end its really simple economics for me, I dont want to drive the 450+ miles round trip to his place to have the work done, only to have it all knocked out again on the way back!

Face it guys... Our road surfaces are crap and does it really justify spending £££ for an amazing road only set-up?

Just my 2p worth...

My view, and its only that, is that for the consumer level client CG offers an extremely satisfying experience and as a result many people drive many miles for appointments.
For those with experiences and needs that would place them above the consumer level, there are alternative options providing better suited work.

Around 3.5k but I didn't say the figure because my 45k GT2 with complete removal and replacement where necessary and factory rebuild of dampers is quite a different job from presumably your adjustment job.

But his approach applies equally.

I'd start with the assumption that a new car will be a mile out from its basic factory settings, if not when delivered then certainly a few weeks after.

I'd like to think a porsche suspension should last more then 225 miles even on English roads smile

It is a bit of a trip though granted.

CG fanatics tend to have all been to see Chris and had work done on their car. So know what they are talking about.

Critics have invariably never had any work done by him and going on rumour, second hand info.

Make of that what you will.

I have had major work done on a GT3 and was thrilled - though skint!

Absolutely in terms of the CG service. It is arguable though that perhaps less so either about suspension setup as a whole or in terms of specifics?

Agree I think his guru status is somewhat over done - but fact remains, customers are invariably happy. And naysayers invariably not customers.

Agree with this, there is a set of professionals that fettle race cars, that I seem to spend my life chasing, since there are always busy. Or at least too busy for amateurs like me with only standard money, though my last suspension setup cost close to £2.5k. They also do not advertise and i always seem get them through a trade contact/ racing friend / test day.

In terms of CG rubbishing others suspension work. This may not be professional, but in my experience standard practice for a guru ... And then other gurus to say how they corrected the work of the first guru. The only gurus that do not usually criticise each other is when they work together or pass work between each other.

Though I have no personal experience of CG, given the pages of very positive responses in PH, I would say he is a very safe bet for setting up/correcting your road going Porsche suspension. So worth taking your 991 for at least a checkup.
