identifying engine from VIN

so the car ive got has had a replacement engine as the old one siezed up, and its the same kind of engine, same size but i dont know what year.

is there any website that can tell me what year engine it is and what car it is from, from the vin code?

well i was going off the number stamped on the engine, but has since posting the OP found out the 10th digit on the vin tells you the year.

The vin number on the car is not going to tell you very much about the replacement engine, it might tell you something about the engine that used to be in there, or is it the vin from the car that the replacement engine came out of?

Or am I just more drunk than I think I am?

ok then, i think i was getting a bit confused with numbers.

the vins on the car, but the engine has a different number on it? correct?

so will the number on the engine tell me about the year it was made?

The vin is a vehicle identification number, from that along with other random plates and stickers you can normally ascertain most of the original build spec of the vehicle. Some manufacturers are easier than others to dig the information out of.

The engine number is just that, an identification of the engine. Same thing with some are easier to get info on that others, try us with the make of the car and the engine number.. plus anything else that might be of relevance and you never know your luck, someone might come up with something or point you in a direction

will have to look for the engine code tomoro as its dark, cold, and I'm not in the mood to be searching around in the dark for a number in an engine bay
