Hi everyone - I'm a newbie and was wondering if any of you could answer this question for me please : I've recently ordered a new boxster and have had to pay the 3rd year warranty & 3rd year Porsche assistance upfront as the salesman told me this was not an option ?!

I've promised the wife I will keep this one but chances are I will probably trade in after two years, meaning I'm paying up front for something I'm not actually going to get !?

Hope you can help and by the way, great informative forum.

Cheers

Im sure the trade description act etc allows you to opt out of additional warranty that involves you to put down further payment. Ok, if you decide not to have it, the car is out of warranty but thats your choice.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to take the Assist anyway if don't wish.

I haven't. Pointless if you have AA etc.

Totally optional and you can buy the 3rd year cover anytime upto when the 2 yr warranty runs out.

Porsche normally send a letter asking if you want it, if not already optioned.

I could be wrong, but it may be slightly cheaper if bought from new.

I didn't bother opting for it on my last two cars.

My OPC also tried to sell me their 'life-shine' polish protection, telling me all cars they supply must have it. Told them where to go. Funnily enough they didn't argue. Just trying to take advantage of people. Criminal I think.

You do not have to take it. I think 2 years is best- best value to renew at the 2 year service. That will save the inspection fee,& take another 2 year's out. Cheaper to take the 2 year option-if you're gonna keep that is!

Thanks for the replies.

Still a bit confused as have received the following back from the sales rep which states you have to have it (image taken from the Boxster Brochure).

Just wondered if those that have responded saying they wouldn't want it have actually deleted from their build ?

I remember when building my car it does not let you delete these options and have once again been on the Porsche builder website but no joy.

Was wondering if the dealer can override this but for obvious reasons they don't make it 'public'.

Thanks again

Totally agree. If all cars supplied must have it, then how can it be an optional extra in the first place?

It is bad enough that a top end manufacturer like Porsche are one of the only marques not to offer a 3 year warranty as standard anyway, let alone trying to force people to pay extra for the third year.

I bought my 981S without the 3rd year warranty and assist .. no problem at all.

As it's an insurance product, it cannot be compulsory.

Thanks everyone for the heads up - rep replied earlier saying that Porsche UK don't advertise the fact or want you to know that you can delete it but I am able to take off the warranty and Porsche assistance so happy days :-)

Gonna spend some of the dough painting my wheels gloss black instead of paying them £801 !!!

Thanks again

Watch your back with that OPC, the sales guy is trying to screw you to increase his commission and you shouldn't tolerate it, I opted out with zero problem from the nice men at Porsche Solihull, that's exactly the same treatment as you should have received. Hiding behind "head office" is a pathetic and cowardly way of selling.
That said enjoy the car, it's fantastic

This... He was trying to rip you off by by lying. They know damn well what is optional and what is not.

Tell them where to go and say you will be ordering from a different dealer because of their dishonesty. Make a convincing enough fuss and you may even get freebies to keep the custom.

You should be annoyed anyway, but worth a rant.

Bit peed off really as obviously they must have done this before and feel like I've been duped a little !

Would have gone somewhere else but already stuck down my deposit and rep got back last night confirming my car will be built today !! (was scheduled for the 8th) - should have by my b'day on 1st Dec so it's gonna be a happy crimbo :-)

I will be taking it up with the rep on the quiet and if nothing offered then will kick off.

Thanks for the info
