One of my pet hates; I drive almost all the time on rural roads with no lighting. So if it's getting dark or raining or just a bit gloomy, you have to, by law, put your lights on. And that means dipped headlights. If you need your lights on, you need them all on. Not just your side-lights. So what is the matter with people? Oooh!: I'm going to turn the switch to put my lights on, but not all the way, 'cos I might put my headlights on and wear the fkers out out!! s. Undoubtably the same people who don't think they have to indicate on roundabouts.

Where does it state, in law that 'put your lights on' means 'all your lights'?

I sometimes put my side lights on as it lights up the dashboard.

If it's only a little bit dark or it's raining, sidelights are fine.

I often just drive around with the sidelights on in the van. Any time of day, at the moment as it's often left in places, such as our yard where there's lots going on, and when the sidelights are on, all the orange markers down the side are on. It's just a case of helping it be seen a little easier.

I think the OP is stressing "rural roads" - side lights only are permitted in built-up areas with street lighting. They're downright dangerous on country lanes.

Lighting requirements (113 to 116)
113

You MUST

ensure all sidelights and rear registration plate lights are lit between sunset and sunrise
use headlights at night, except on a road which has lit street lighting. These roads are generally restricted to a speed limit of 30 mph (48 km/h) unless otherwise specified
use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced (see Rule 226).

I sometimes do this just to piss of miserable stiff motherfkers like your self wink

Trust me when you are truly happy in life such silly little things won't bother you in the slightest. I used to get annoyed at little things like this as well years ago when i too was miserable and depressed, i realized i only had my self to blame for being a miserable sod it was nobody elses fault and fast forward 10 years im happy as ever and can spot another miserable fker from a mile off. and i also realized miserable people need to experience more misery before than will actually wake up so its ironic and funny that sometimes i will intentionally piss miserable people like yourself off because i know thats what you need.

you reap what you sow, you are sowing seeds of misery my friend. wink

Oh. And I just find it needlessly dangerous. I guess now you're over you depression, you're happy on your push-bike. When you're allowed out.

Not just country lanes, but 'A' roads that join the towns and villages.

I just use my foglights as the bulbs are a lot cheaper than my headlights, means that I can use them more often without worrying about them wearing out.

You missed the definition of Night -
highwaycode said:
Which means there is a hour each day where you must have sidelights on - but you are not required to have dipped beam on (weather conditions permitting)
