Cayenne Turbo or RRS S/C
Discussion
I'm in the lucky position that I don't have any commute miles to fund. I have an old 911 for hooning and an Alfa GT diesel which used to be for my 16k miles commute per year. Living in the sticks RWD is no good when the bad weather arrives and I fancy a change from the Alfa to big, comfy, 4WD barge for cruising when I need. £20k buys a lot of V8 supercharged Range Rover Sport or Cayenne Turbo these days, probably due to the (lack of) fuel economy.
For me the RR looks slightly classier, but the Cayenne is reported the better steer, not to mention a good deal quicker. If the choice was yours which would you choose and why?

i prefer my uber barges not to look like sheds on wheels

I know the 7 is a lovely barge, but it defeats the point. I already have one RWD car which is useless in the snow/ice. This car has to be 4WD.far more subtle imo

It seems that opinion is pretty split. The Porsche badge does attract, but I also understand the point that a "Sports" offroader is pointless. Both cars are pretty pointless if we're being objective. I just want a chance of getting out of the hamlet where I live if the bad weather comes, plus a bit of grunt when I'm travelling to see friends and family all over the country.
It'll probably boil down to a test drive of each before making a decision, but I think I'll have to test the RR first because if the Cayenne T is half as competent as it's reported to be then I might not drive the RR.

For the avoidance of doubt, I'm keeping the 911. I just want something big, swift, comfy and capable of pulling me through a few inches of snow to replace the Alfa JTD.
Then the Cayenne is the one to buy...re previous post,on air suspension set to comfort it is a more than comfortable ride, effortless really. Then, set to sport and foot down? Where did i leave that Rangie?
Go and try both and decide from there.

You live in Lincs according to your profile. Has the Arctic circle moved south? If you want one have one, but I'll bet a Cayenne will have performance road bias tyres on it and not be as good in the snow as it should be.
Well, not quite, but my village has about 10 houses and is at the bottom of one of the only hills in the county. In 2 of the last 3 winters most cars were stuck. At the time I had a 993 and a Pug 105 1.5d for the commute. The little 106 was one of very few cars that managed to get in and out, largely due to the skinny tyres with a cast iron lump sat over the front axle. I'm not looking to go rallying through snow drifts or quarries, but I'd like to know I'm not stuck and also have a bit of comfort and speed for the other 11 months and 2 weeks of the year.RR for me out of those 2
I'd probably get one of these
