My first 2 year service is due on my 987 Boxster S - looking at the pricing at OPC Reading its about £480 for the service plus £150 for the brake fluid, is it worth looking for a good independent or is OPC servicing important on a newer car when it comes to resale? (I don't have anything against Reading BTW, they've always been excellent)

There are a few issues that i was hoping would get done under warranty also - The display on the dashboard has just developed an annoying line across it, and the sports exhaust button has worn out (using it too much obviously) and falls out occasionally - would independents be able to do this at all in anyone's experience?

I assume from your wording this is the car's very first service. If so I would definitely go with the OPC and use it to 'snag' anything that can be done under warranty. Nothing to stop you doing the latter separately with an OPC and then get serviced at an independent but I wouldn't do that for the reason you highlighted - resale. While the care and attention at an independent might be better it could just raise question marks come resale when all other cars a prospective buyer could look at that are 2-4 years old will have OPC history. Plus if you want to trade in against another Porsche at an OPC they might actually turn yours down as a PEx.

Personally I would only start thinking independent:
- once the car was 4-5 years old (possibly longer) OR
- I know I am going to be keeping it for several years.

Thought it had to be OPC servicing during warranty period?

After which it is up to you. I'm definately going independent now I'm out of warranty.

No better service at my OPC, less trust of work done at my OPC, pay more at my OPC. Difficult decision!

I'm in the same situation. Just phoned around the 3 nearest dealers and 2 of them offered a 10% discount to get the business. You also get another Porsche model to have a play with for the day.

Lots of OPC have started to loan non Porsche cars. Reading do Passats as do Guildford. I suppose if you have top end 911 you could ask for better.
