Flat battery / fans running
Discussion
Went to Thorpe park yesterday, when we came out the battery was dead - light siwtch was on, don't know if it was just sidelights but the pods were down. Jump started (thanks to the guy in the Vauxhall) when I got home put battery charger on. Went to garage today and cooling fans were running taking power from charger battery dead again. Disconnected fan wire they stopped, then disconnected temp switch - reconnected both and fans have now stopped running (working on override switch), cant start as battery still flat. Is it normal for the temp switch to stick on then reset??
Thats my experience as well, give the battery a good charge up and see if the fans are running then with a rubber handled screw driver tap all the relays one by one and see if they go off. They can stick due to the amount of current the fans take (can be up to 20A) so if in doubt identify the correct relay and change it anyway. Make sure you get the correct one!
My relay is next to the fuse box under the glove compartment and it always seemed to be getting a bit hot and temperamental.
I ended up fitting a couple of relays (I have dual fans) off a scrapped VW (the Germans do know how to do electrics in my experience) under the bonnet that were fed by the crappy original. No more problems
