Decent AV reciever without spending a lot
Discussion
Chaps, you'll have to excuse me as I'm not massively up with things in the audio visual world.
Anyway a mate wants a decent AV reciever for Christmas, I'm not massively sure of the budget at the moment but I will ask his mrs as she is buying.
The basics that I know he wants, along with what I know he'll be using with
- needs 7.1 sound
- has Sky Hd and a PS3
And then he'll be needing new speakers too

Don't trust What Hi-Fi? reviews, they're quite biased towards certain companies. Hunt around on the web to see what people actually think.http://www.richersounds.com/product/av-receivers/s...

Great AVR although it's not 7.1, just 5.1. I thought it had to be 7.1 ?
Did you mean £1,000 for speakers? As a rule of thumb, you need to spend 2 to 3 times the price of an AVR in 5.1 speakers, otherwise it defeats the object.
If he's gonna have cheapo speakers, it might have been better to buy a Onkyo 309 at £99 from Richer Sounds...
