My engine is fitted with a Kent VT31X camshaft which is described as fast road / Rally use. Does anyone know the associated valve clearances or would you go with the standard Capri settings of 0.4mm exhaust and 0.35 inlets. I measured the "as is" settings and the majority seem to be 0.6 exhaust and 0.55 inlets which seem a bit large.

If nobody can assist here...suggest you check with the Ford Capri (2.8i) forums on the web. Same engine.

In my limited experience of hot cams, generally they have a slightly bigger clearance than standard, but not all that much, perhaps another 2 - 5 thou ? (just guessing), so those numebrs do seem too big.

Hi Dave, my old 2.9 ( jims car now) was 16 thou exhaust and 14 thou inlet.

The Haynes gives 2.8 as 0.35 inlet/0.40 exhaust (14 and 16 thou), so that is indeed the starting point.

Many thanks everyone for the info, four cylinders were as I described with large settings however two cylinders were a lot less and I may even find an extra "horse power" or two!

Hi Mate..just wondering..Do you have an unleaded conversion?..If not maybe this is down to valve recession...Ziga

Of course valve recession will REDUCE the clearances, just making that clearer
