Inspired by the high mileage thread, let see the other side of the coin. What's the lowest mileage car you've taken to the scrapper without having crashed it?

For me it an Audi 80 Cab, which met a crusher with 160K on the clock, but I bet there are a few that don't make it that far.

Skoda Estelle 120l, 12yo & 38k miles, bought for £50, weighed in for £100, it was a mint one, but was in my youth & I just saw beer money & a quick profit, no tax but a few months MOT

Scrapped a 98 Astra in 2010 on 35k or so.

It didn't like it's meeting with an icy road and snow bank very much.

Read over on mg-rover.org forums that an immaculate 2003 rover 25 ended up getting scrapped with only 33k miles on it! frown

Turns out the elderly owner had been quoted £500 by a local garage to fix the failed headgasket, so decided to let the car go for scrap instead. confused

I thought there might be a "no crashes" caveat wink

Doesn't make writing off my four week old Triumph Daytona with 1016 miles on the clock any less painful...

Scrapped a 206gti last year with 83k on it. Back axle was toast, couple of dents and a blowing exhaust.

Had tried to sell it with 3 months mot left for £300 and got fed up with people wanting to haggle, asking about service history and generally being pests.

Got £180 for it from the local scrapyard.

Lots of test / development cars get scrapped with well under 30k miles on the clock.

My sister in law has sent two Peugeot 306s to the scrappy with around 60000 on the clock of both of them. The first one never had its oil checked in about 3 years so it ran out of oil and the second one ended up breaking its cam belt.
I guess keeping a car maintained is not her strong point.

My friends dad works for jaguar remember he took me out in an XFR about 3 years ago and said it would soon be going to the crusher as it could not be sold.

I was not sure if he was having me on or not as had something silly like 14k miles on it...

Why an earth did she buy another one if the first only last 60K?

1991 Vauxhall Astra SX - about 85k miles!

It went to three different mechanics, had numerous different engines (first few were rebuilt original engine) and all blew within fifty miles. Nobody could figue out why the hell it was doing it! I naturally initially blamed the workmanship, got a refund and went elsewhere. I gave up and passed it onto little brother- he tried a new engine and again it blew so he scrapped it.

we changed cooling, electrical and nothing fixed it. strangest thing still to this day

My old '95 Hyundai Avante went to the scrapper last year with around 72k.
Bought unseen from a friend for about 300 quid.
Turned out to be a heap.
6 weeks later, automatic gearbox went pop.
Scrap value, about 250 quid!

My parents scrappaged a Vauxhall Corsa with 34k miles on the clock, my Mum had owned it from new. Such a waste, but then it was a terrible car. Not that it was even slightly unreliable, it's just glaciers move faster and it handled like a trawler in a storm. I once had the back end step out while following a LWB Sprinter round a roundabout to give some idea of how appalling the handling was.

because regardless of what car you buy you should always check the oil...

I did a house clearance for the family of an old chap who had died, the guy was a total hoarder, the house was utterly rammed full of stuff and when we opened the garage we were met with a wall of stuff.

As we cleared it it became obvious that there was a H reg Astra in the garage as well as the junk. It had sat since the early 90s and was rusted right out, thanks to the seaside location of the property and the leaky roof.

There were no documents to be found anywhere for the car and we took it to the scrapyard with 17500 miles on it.

I removed a lot of parts and sold them to Astra club members though so some of it lives on.

I scrapped an old Vauxhall Cavalier with ca. 125,000 miles on the clock. It had failed the MoT on lots of little points and because I had only paid 250 GBP for it 18 months earlier, I really couldn't be bothered to get my hands dirty and fix it. I was able to sell a number of choice parts before scrapping it so the all important bragging rights of getting more money back on it than the initial outlay remained intact.
