touch up paint?
Discussion
Do TVR dealers sell touch up paint? I seem to have "acquired" a 3 inch long scratch on the top of one rear wing, whilst in the car park at work today.
It's down to the plastic underneath! I'd like to think it was accidental, but you'd think they'd leave a note or something.
In the event that touch up paint is available, what's the best method for getting a good finish? I was going to scrape some filler across the wound to bring it up to the level of the surrounding paint, then stick a couple of layers of paint on. Thoughts?
PS: Car is "halcyon hebrides" which is black with little green speckles in it. If I'm lucky it's a Ford colour and available in Halfords, but I suspect not.

Try www.tvrbodyshop.co.uk they are very good and fast paid £12.95 for large paint stick (small pot). I build up layers of paint over several days then wet flat it down then tcut it then polish, that way I dont rub through layers of the paint to the filler.

Does this work on metalic paint, if so then I'm impressed and will have to do the same!!

Dont know if it works on all paint, i think it does if it hasent got a laquered finish.
get some wet and dry paper (like sand paper ) normally grey, use the very finest grade about 1500 I think, and very gently rub down the paint using lots of water. You have to be very carefull not to rub through all the paint.

Hi Carl I have the same colour car as you and wil be doing the same myself at some stage..
I have DIY resprayed lots of cars and fixed scratches and blips also ...
make sure wound is clean .. white spirit
use 800 grade wet and dry wet with a little washing up liquid and water to very gently feather the laquer
use primer stick to build up paint thickness as colour coat will be thin and sink
allow a day between coats if outside
get it so just under top coats and then build up the colour with probably 3 or 4 coats flatting in between with 800 then 1200 wet and dry
dont forget to shake / stir the paint well
when nice and flat (will be mat and even) clean again with white spirit carefully and apply laquer in thin coats flatting between until all covered and even surface then polish out with T cut and compound then polish ...
very time consuming and you will see it if its on a flat panel cos metallics are hard to match and pearls are just the same...
alternativy try a Chips away type company using your paint?
Hope this helps ... Ive got to do my door egdes and a graze on my wing where I caught my garage door...
Feel free to email if you want to pop over to compare!
regards DAS

Yep Probably agree with you Ed .. but thats how Im goner fix my door edges - it works for me ! better than looking at white primer marks and they wont be visible unless you really look ...
A gash in the middle of the panel would need a fair size blow in too hide it an prep is the same ...
I love the cars you have painted in various threads ... have you seen a really dark black based flip out there? - black to green or blue or gold?
Our car is a green black pearl - almost too subtle
was wondering about paint effects available to go over good sound paint to "lift it?"
