Are they any good? My OH drives our Mk1 Golf Cabrio everyday (she wouldn't have it any other way!) but it takes ages to heat up. Are these things worth a try or a waste of time?

As above utter ste.

An ex girlfriend used to put a hot water bottle on the dash before leaving for work - that works shockingly well at clearing the screen.

I turn a (240v) fan heater on in mine whilst I eat my breakfast.

I used to use one and positioned it on the rear shelf where it just about kept the rear windscreen clear. So pretty much a waste of time and effort IMO.

Actually Mk1 Golfs have pretty good heaters - are you sure yours is working correctly ?

Even the Amazon ad states:
"PLEASE NOTE THAT THE HEAT FROM ALL PLUG IN CAR HEATERS IS VERY LIMITED. PLEASE DONT BUY EXPECTING ANY PLUG IN HEATER TO REPLACE A BROKEN CAR HEATER. "

This, IMO. Check your Heater valve is opening and closing fully and if that appears to be working ok, check your thermostat.

Those plug in ones are complete junk. Wasn't even hot enough to make my hands hot when it was right against them.
