£500 limit, Road bike help

Hi all, want to ask for your advice please.

As winter is approaching, I want to purchase a road bike around £500 to put on a turbo trainer, & use in crap conditions over winter.

I have a Scott Foil 15 & there is no way that's going on the trainer. Would rather keep the Foil as Sunday best & enjoy it in the summer.

What do people suggest, prefer new, have been looking around, scott speedster looks nice & the boardman bikes, any pointers in the right direction would be nice.

No brand loyalty, 54cm & something I can ride in winter as well as turbo training.

Have looked for 2nd hand bikes, ebay & gumtree but reluctant as a mate get stung buying a bike, happy to have a look at any suggestions off eBay from the peeps here in the know

I'd put the scott on the trainer, just buy a cheap rear wheel for it with a trainer tyre and swop the cassette over to encourage consistent wear on the drivetrain.

Thankyou , exactly what I was looking for, any other suggestions to throw into the mix?

One confession, I hate red, but may have to overlook as you can't have everything

I had one for 6 months or so until someone decided that they did like the red and stole it! It's a great bike for the money, nothing else really comes close unless you start spending £2-300 more I don't think.
