Just wondering what other people's experiences are with this system, I have it on my car and every single time I fill up and go to put the petrol nozzle back it's pisses fuel all over the floor/car I have tried all sorts of jiggling, shaking and waiting but every single time I end up with petrol everywhere.

Also when buying the car I was told it was an anti theft device and I would not be able to fill up with a normal jerry can, I ran out of petrol about 3 weeks ago and filled up with a standard petrol station jerry can with no problems what so ever.

Is there a problem with my car or are they all just like this?

I had a new focus for a hire car a while back, it was a Diesel and I had the same problems.

If filling to the brim (which I always do) the pump would clcik off in the usual way but then fuel would seem to come up the filler pipe and trickle through a drain hole and down the body work of the car.

Pointless, ill thought out feature for people too stupid to remember what type of fuel their car takes.

Works OK on the Mondeo although if you look at the diagram, it does tell you to put the nozzle in and sort of let it hang on the lower lip which improves things vastly. You do have to wait a little time to let the petrol pressure out.

Regardless, it's a damn sight better than my Mustang which may or may not feel like having petrol put in it.

When filling up, let it click, wait 5-10 seconds then let it click again. Any more than that and fuel will come out of the overfill pipe on to the floor.
I only usually fill to one click and then leave it a few seconds, it still goes everywhere I've also tried pulling it out a little bit and leaving it a few seconds and neither seem to work, don't get what was wrong with a normal filler cap

Normal filler caps aren't the issue, it's the design of the tank. I have similar issues with the normally-capped Mustang and occasionally the Fiesta. I think part of the problem is the rate of flow from pumps desperate to get you off the forecourt but this very issue tends to make the strategy backfire.

It's especially important on diesel vehicles to leave the nozzle in the filler for at least 10 seconds before removing. It's also especially important to put the nozzle fully in the filler (i.e in as far as it will go. The filler has a 2-flap mechanism, what you're experiencing is, by pulling out the nozzle too early, you've closed the bottom flap before all of the fuel has settled. It has to go somewhere, either back out and down the side of your car or, in the case of my old Kuga, through an escape pipe and down underneath the car.

I had the same thing, after 6-9 months I looked at the diagram on the filler cap and its says to stop at the 2nd click and then wait 10 secs before removing the pump.
