Rear passenger door caved in, rear drivers quarter panel also damaged.
I've been told it is GBP 2,500 worth of work! a fair price?

£2,500 sounds a bit steep.

Can't see the C pillar area too well but it doesn't look too bad.

Was there any airbag action?

I'd have thought sourcing a 2nd hand door wouldn't be too hard.

That doesnt look that bad ont he face of it, door off a scrapper inthe correct colour if you can find one would be fairly reasonable, it is the damage to the rear quarter and whether a new one needs grafting in, that is a lot of work.

depends how mcuh it is worth, whether it is worth doing fully, as mentioned a second hand door (there will be one out there in breaker land, these arent rare) and then perhaps get the quarter/arch done but without a new one being fitted, knock it out as best as it can be, fill and paint, migth not be perfect but if the car is not worth that much and you are keeping it and can cope with a "good enough" repair then you may be able to do it cheaper, going through the insurance will never be cheap.

1/4 panel will repair and a 2nd hand door should cost no more than about £80 for a bare door.

I would charge around £450 + vat to repair that and swap the door for you or about another £150 on top if the door needed painting as it came in the wrong colour.

I think it depends on how good you want the results to be - if you want it done "as new", £2500 doesn't sound unreasonable.

That is very similar damage to a Paris based collegue's almost new Grand C-Max (his wheel arch is probably worse) and he said he has no intention of getting it fixed.

£2500 is way too expensive.

buy 2nd hand from ebay for £150-£200. replace parts yourself...it's an easy job. take to paintshop for repsray of door [if necessary] and rear wing. should be no more than £1000 all in.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=2007+passat+...

we'll split the remaining £1500 and you'll be £750 up thumbup

Repairing that rear quarter isn't a five minute job, surely?

no it's not, but it's definitely not a £2500 job. there are some good companies out there who specialize in dent removals these days, who use dent 'pulling' techniques i.e. heating up panels to make more pliable and then pull out 95%+ of dent, then finish off with dolly and thin skim of filler prior to paint.

of more concern would be the c pillar and the sill area below the door. from photo i can not see whether the sill has been pressed in.

yeah, seems strange considering the UK and its throwaway attitude to cars and the cheap prices, one is willing to spend that much cash to repair something that ie the french could care less about. seems quite the juxtaposition..
