Well done. Good reasoned argument there. The cyclist sounded like just a normal, well reasoned person. Probably didn't cross his mind to "punch the driver's lights out" as you put it.

I think you are mistaking "cowardly hitting out at the car" with knocking on the side to let him know that he was there.
I think the cyclist showed remarkable retrain. The driver was trying to cut in using the "I'm bigger than you" principle and I have to say, my language would certainly have been a lot less polite.
At 12 sec in, the utter
in the Audi clearly crosses the solid white line defining the bus lane, breaking the law (Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, sects 5&8). Then he uses an audible warning device aggressively, other than for it's intended use. At 25 seconds, he once again crosses a solid white line, beyond which he is not permitted to drive. He then parks his car a) in a bus lane b) on a double yellow line c) within 10 metres of a junction.
All through the clip he demonstrates a very poor attitude to everyone but himself. The Road Traffic Act 1988 sects 2&3, as amended by the Road Traffic Act 1991 applies here. You MUST NOT *Drive dangerously *Drive without due care and attention *Drive without reasonable consideration for other road users. At best he's guilty of DWDCAA, but he admits on camera that he knew the cyclist was there and still tried to pass. In effect he has, at best admitted to DWRCFORU, at worst, it's Dangerous Driving.
There are other specific offences in there too, against Road Traffic Act 1988 sect 36, Transport Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002. Obviously the law does not apply to you if you are 'well hard', have badges on your polo shirt, and drive an Audi.
The blatant 'sideswipe' he attempts on the bike is enough in itself, the fact that he does it other than in accordance with the road markings just makes it worse. Some of his excuses are just classic:
"touch my car again, that's an offence" - No it isn't. It doesn't become an offence unless damage is caused or intended.
"as you can tell, it's quite difficult driving on these roads" - If it's that difficult, catch the bus.
"people do undertake and overtake, including bicycles" - You cannot be 'undertaking' a car in a lane from which the car is prohibited.
"you were literally 'here', why can't you be 'there'" - The cyclist's relative position in the BUS/CYCLE lane is irrelevant, as YOU are not allowed in it.
Mr 'AJ06OSU', you are a t
t of the highest order. The tap on the window you got was barely audible in the clip. If you'd tried that stunt on me I'd have tapped your bloody window as though I was trying to put my hand through it
. When you place another persons life in danger, you confer on them the right to take action to prevent them from coming to harm. If I had filmed that episode, I would be dropping a copy in the post to the local Police, especially given the cyclists calm and reasoned reaction. In these litigious times, I might also consider a No Win, No Fee claim for PTSD and psychological trauma. Not that I'm a fan of such litigation, but it might teach the idiot Audi driver a lesson.
Funniest bit for me was the gormless look on Audi boy's face as he tried to understand the cyclists viewpoint, closely followed by the way in which he became a complete pussy, and got back into his car toward the end. FFS, if he was in that much of a hurry to get past the bike in an unsafe situation, why the hell did he waste so much time making a complete arse of himself at the side of the road.
Too much of this kind of selfish, inconsiderate, and downright dangerous driving these days, but there seems to be no real attempt to educate people toward improved driving standards.

I go for a bike ride and over a few hours maybe I get passed by 100 cars or so, who knows really but it's loads. Maybe ever so often one driver tries to pass where there isn't enough room or misjudged my speed or does something stupid but the vast majority of roads users co exist together brilliantly.
I can't help but feel this guy on the bike has been going around with his helmet cam, just waiting for something like this to happen so he can film it and post it online. He's probably waited weeks for the perfect opportunity.
Sure the driver cut him up but all the cyclist needed to do was dab his brakes and he wouldn't have had any issue with the car at all. There's no need to bang the side of the car like that unless you're about to get squashed.
If I think something dangerous is about to happen I back off and let the car pass. I don't go around banging cars just so I can film people's reaction. There's enough danger on the road without trying to deliberately ramp up situations like that.

I think you have a vivid imagination, car driver was clearly in the wrong, crossing the white line in the first instance, continuous horn.......I can't help but feel this guy on the bike has been going around with his helmet cam, just waiting for something like this to happen so he can film it and post it online. As a car driver and cyclists I know cyclists are vulnerable, so when I am playing car driver, I give them due consideration, this plonker obviously didn't.
Luckily no one was hurt. This time

Agreed. What the car driver did was disgusting. What the cyclist did was far more restrained than I could have managed in that situation, much to my shame might I add.I think you are mistaking "cowardly hitting out at the car" with knocking on the side to let him know that he was there.

I said the car driver cut him up. It's clear the car driver was in the wrong. My point is though that I wonder if the fact that someone has equipped themselves with a camera to record such incidents makes them more likely to escalate a situation because they are making a film of it. As I said the cyclist who was in the right could still have done more to avoid trouble by simply letting the car through. Sure the driver was wrong but you're still on a little bike and he's in a heavy car. Just because you have a camera doesn't mean you shouldn't still cycle defensively. As a car driver and cyclists I know cyclists are vulnerable, so when I am playing car driver, I give them due consideration, this plonker obviously didn't.

a difficult situation caused by poor choices made very quickly (neither individual backed out of the developing 'situation' and they each escalated it i.e. car tapping and horn beeping/trapping the cyclist).
I think they resolved it pretty well to be honest - neither of them came across as a t
t because despite clearly both being a bit on edge they had a polite conversation about it and sorted out their problem.

Cos of the camera...?I think they resolved it pretty well to be honest - neither of them came across as a t

Being a keen cyclist, I wish it would be mandatory for awareness of cyclists to be included in learning to drive, safe distance overtake etc as there are a lot of cyclists on the road now. Maybe have it included as part of your driving test, not difficult to put into practice.
Me personally, I would have braked let the Audi pass, there is no point in getting into a confrontation as next time it may end in a punch up & nobody like's a trip to A & E.

Hmm both t
ts... As a cyclist I would have just let the car in with a dab of the brakes. Not really worth trying to prove a point and it was very obvious that he would need to move left.
Then I would have peddled like mad and taken great pleasure in overtaking him again as soon as we hit traffic..
