After what seemed like a never-ending stream of "What Car to remove my testicles" etc, I finally settled on the car I had my eye on from the start when I knew it was a matter of time before the MX5 had to go.

A 2006 Ford S Max 2.5T Titanium with X Pack (Nav, Xenons, Glass Roof, Voice Control) - 2 owner, 66k miles on the clock, fully stamped with Ford ink. Secured from main dealer (what a bunch of idiots) for £8k.

A lot of car for the money, she is in good nick with just a couple of light bumper scuffs and a small ding in the passenger door.

Paintwork is very good, wheels are pretty much brand new having persuaded the dealer to send them off for a diamond-cut and relacquer as part of the deal.

As I was informed many a time, it is surprisingly fun to drive for such a bus. It can be hussled round corners and is very much helped by the excellent power plant which pulls hard once over the 2k RPM threshold. There is no exciting exhaust note, but the engine itself makes a nice purposeful rumble when pushed.

It really does shift when you want it to and I am looking forward to seeing how it drives once I have invested in a BlueFin and upped the output from 217bhp to 260bhp!

The boring bits - it's insanely practical. Our new double buggy eats up the whole of the boot of the Civic but in the S Max, I managed to get the buggy, both high chairs, two big bags plus a load of toys all in with room to spare.

So the shopping list:

- BlueFin
- DVD system for the kids

The next problem is trying to keep it out of my wife's hands for as long as possible...

Pictures to come.

They're surprisingly good fun for a big old bus, aren't they?

Old Ford mate of mine had one from new... you can easily get them to 260bhp and a wedge more torque - worth losing a silencer or two as well hehe

ETA - seem to recall there is an airbox mod too...

£8k for all that from a main dealer....nicely done!
I wouldn't be bothering with in-car DVD rubbish, but that's just me..and a whole other thread boxedin
Keep this thread posted with the mpg you're getting....I'd bee interested to see as I'm running the same engine in my Volvo C30...
Looking forward to the pics...didn't PH run one for a while with a day-glo yellow grille surround... quite liked that...

Actually, will Mountune do the Focus ST mods on it? hehe

I would consider taking it to Mountune but the BlueFin upgrade is a pretty stealthy method of getting past the wife-firewall. smile

Might ask about the silencers when I take it in for a once over by my "trusted mechanic" - but part of me is worried about looking like a complete tit driving round in a very loud people-wagon hehe.

Have not been able to test MPG yet but am surprised again how slowly the needle is going down given my stop start commute...maybe it's faulty!

I also managed to get it in a colour I rarely see on the roads these days.

Silver.

Get an intercooler swop to help it, as undersize for the warmer days and enjoy.
