Hi.
My throttle is sticking on my 5.0lt Griff. Engine off no issues and works perfectly but when the engine is running the throttle sticks just from idle when operated by the pedal. Once off idle its fine. Butterfly seems OK if operated under the bonnet and I have oiled the cable with no effect.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Cheers, Stew.

Is it sticking just off idle as you slow down? They do that by design smile

Its a strange one. Engine running, press the throttle and it sticks every time from idle. Once off idle its OK. WIll have a good look at the weekend to see if I can find anything.

Funny one Stew - I assume that from idle you press the throttle pedal and nothing happens for a while and then its 3k rpm or something? What happens when you take your foot off the throttle - does that stick as well?
Assuming the cable and linkage are all OK it maybe (outside chance here I suspect) worth taking the air hoses off the throttle body and checking the butterfly isn't a bit gunged up on its pivots or the opening where it closes - some carb cleaner clears that (check its catalyst friendly). Other than that only thought might be a vacuum pipe of something on the idle side might be delaminating and causing loss of something which may affect the idle system (there are hose links to the stepper motor area) but I don't know enough about that side so could be a silly idea. Hopefully someone else with some knowledge might help.
It'll be interesting to know what it is when its sorted.

Hi Jim.
It feels as though its a butterfly sticking but when operated from the engine it feels fine and while using the pedal engine off it is also fine. Revs are OK once you have moved the pedal from its initial position.
Will take the hoses off and have a good look around at the weekend weather permitting.
Cheers, Stew.

Are you sure it's the cable? Or is it that the revs are simply not dropping to idle? In which case, cleaning the stepper motor is your first task - http://www.parkersteve.dsl.pipex.com/stepper.html

Thanks Dod. Yep would agree and was the first thing tried. Made no difference - banghead
Just got hold of some BG throttle body and intake cleaner so will give that a try.

Just been out having a look round to see if I could find the reason for the sticking throttle. Been doing my head in. Tried BG throttle body and intake cleaner and what a difference. No sticking throttle and the engine runs/picks up more smoothly. As I had borrowed a tin and will have to give it back, just ordered one off the bay which I will be using every few thousand miles. Very impressed with it.
Another job ticked off the ever increasing list of things to do.
Cheers, Stew.

Excellent news - maybe this is something that we all could benefit from doing every now and then.

Did you remove the intake pipe and just squirt it all over the butterfly etc ?

Yep that's pretty much it. You have to run up to temp, remove the intake pipe squirt in and leave to idle, then give it a run.
