Whilst on the phone to a client and thus not paying attention I foolishly locked my one and only set of keys for the car in the boot.

Of cause I had just put my laptop in their which I had to use tonight so no option to wait for BMW to provide a spare key (yes I checked with BMW service).

So question for the day! exactly how do you get into the boot of a fully locked E60 M5 without a key?

Not sure you do! I'd like to think there is no known way to get in, else every man and their dog would be breaking in to our cars. As for spare keys......did you know there's a blank hidden in the glove box, top left corner?

Yeah, its a little black plastic key in a fob. You can see it in the little clip in the top left corner of the glove box.

So not only can the thieves gain access and plug in their device into the OBD but we also supply them with a blank key too? biggrin

It's not a blank key; it's a holder for the wallet key!

Mine has an actual key in it. Can you elaborate on this wallet key?

My car was nicked, and sadly recovered. BMW changed the locks and gave me 2 normal keys and the blank thingy.
The blank is supposed to be stored in the glove box without the key, and the key kept in your work bag or something.
Together they can start the car.

The tech said that it's a mistake to leave them together in the glove box. As they can start the car smile

I've put them both in the office.

I know it is no use to you but if you close the boot on my 2007 E60 M5 with the key in there, the car beeps and opens the boot again! Maybe it is because it had comfort access ??

Try telephoni´ng Customer Service.

I think "some" of the cars can be unlocked remotely by Customer Service if the car can connect to a phone network. E60 might be too old for this feature, not sure.

unfortunatelly the deadlock system on the car means a brick through a window will acheive little as you still cant get into the boot... the boot open button doesnt work unless car is disarmed lol

i rang BMW... they couldnt get into the car except by ordering a new key.

didnt take me too long to get in, but its not recomended and the car is secure IMO... kind of a bitter sweat revalation really rolleyes

There a pull cable under the rear passenger seat that opens the boot.

Surprising you stayed out of the "Bimmers are amazingly easy to steal" thing we've been hearing during the last few months.

In such a case, call a locksmith, not a car salesman wink Here is what he would have done:
