I think the police are so low in peoples estimations that it seems like a massive waste of time calling for no effect.
As much as I don't like to say it I wouldn't call for that very reason.
Agreed. I wonder how many pictures were taken on phones or a description was taken if there was police involvment. As much as I don't like to say it I wouldn't call for that very reason.

I do respect the police, they're doing a hard job for not much thanks, etc. but when my motorbike got stolen, that was my experience. Just seemed to be "The Beaurau of Giving Out Crime Numbers".As much as I don't like to say it I wouldn't call for that very reason.
I understand that with stretched resources they have to prioritise and murders, rapes, human trafficing, etc are all more important than my old CX 500. The problem is that (thankfully) 90% of people have little or no experience of the "priority targets", so 90% of people's experience with them is that they're busy doing other things and don't care about your missing budgie.
Can anyone pass me a ladder? It's a long jump down from this high horse...

Me and the girlfriend had our bikes nicked. So did the girls down stairs and the guy across the hall had his nicked from the hallway in his apartment. As much as I don't like to say it I wouldn't call for that very reason.
I didn't want to report it. A) they were el cheapo bikes bought specifically because I knew they'd probably be pinched at some stage and B) never in all my life have I known the police to be able to do anything about it. I also don't think it's their fault they can't either, bikes are so easy to hide or dispose of and many simply have no identifying marks to link them to their owners.
My girlfriend did report it though (encouraged to by the bab). But haven't heard anything since. Trying to get the NCHA to build a proper bike shed and not some exposed steel beams to lock bikes to has also fallen on deaf ears. They are simply not interested in working for their extortionate service fees.
I had a cheapo bike nicked from my local railway station.
Police were excellent. Kept me constantly updated, found the guy, he went to court and pled guilty.
I didn't get the bike back (not that it mattered particularly) but I was very impressed with the Police involvement and ongoing contact.
