Can you imagine the outcry if the evil alien overlords were to transmit a hypnotic signal enslaving us all to their will, and it turned out to be the BBC's fault? So, hurrah to the Beeb for saving the human race!

Although I would just like to say that, if any evil alien overlords are reading this, I for one welcome them...

To be honest if evil alien overlords are far in advance of us, and have advanced in the same way we have, then we have nothing to fear, the red tape and health and safety implications of them invading us would be beyond our comprehension.

and their invasion will be way over budget before they even set off....

They show clips from WW2 often enough and that was quite dangerous.

Verily we are disappearing up our own backsides.

Proof positive (if it where needed!) that Prof Brian Cox has more brain cells than the whole BBC management put together, the monolithic stupidity of this nations primary broadcaster knows no bounds.

Stop Stargazing Live listening to a planet in case they make an earth shattering discovering.
Ditching F1 to save the friggin Tennis and pay for "The Voice"
Repeatedly defrosting Brucey for their prancing show- let him rest in peace FFS!

That said- Stargazing Live= Brilliant :-) The only enhancment left is to ditch Dara, what a co*k!

On the One Show last night Dara seemed to suggest (it was a bit vague) that the whole think was a joke. Quite believable though.

Nothing to do with H&S of course, just a bit of jobsworthing.

having seen his show "school of hard sums" on Dave I gather he is actually a very intelligent fellow - he has a degree in maths and theoretical physics. ergo, you could do a lot worse as a sidekick for Cox

He is bright, and equally importantly ticks the box of 'stand-up comedian' - so people watch it. Otherwise they'd get zero ratings because like science is like really hard and boring?

Yes, he's got no time for psychics, nutritionalists, homeopaths and the like - "put them all in a bag and beat them with sticks".

Wrongly accusing senior politicians of paedophilia live on national TV is, however, entirely fine.

Yes, I would say that a possible radio signal from an alien civilisation many light years away poses far more of a threat to health and safety than allowing a known child rapist to create and host his own children's shows over a period of three decades...

Eh...its not actually a true BBC policy. It was a joke at the time of the show as the BBC didn't have a policy for alien contact and they had asked what to do if they found a signal.

And nothing was banned as the show aired last year!

So clearly you can make it up :-)

Are you joking? He's one of few genuinely intelligent people left on television for christ's sake! The fact he's absolutely hilarious is a huge bonus too.

Seems he now miffed looking at his tweet. Posted 8th Nov. https://twitter.com/ProfBrianCox

And Stargazing Live back in Jan, better news.

Who is this "us", earthling?

The bit with a grovelling Kent Brockman shame-facedly admitting that the 'giant ant invasion' was all a misunderstanding is hilarious.

Anyone remember that woman on Jeremy Beadles show? After the aliens landed?

While I'm entirely confident the BBC H&S nonsense was a joke, I'd suggest not poo pooing the idea based on the general publics capacity for processing information! See above, Orson Wells version of War of the Worlds! (although I'm sure my mass hysteria wasn't as widespread as often reported)

This has got me thinking of the publics disproportionate reactions now... Fuel shortage... Y2K... Deirdre Barlow...

Credit the public with nothing.
