Expansion Tanks
Discussion
Hi Mate..I believe it was ralph but the one he had is not made anymore, I was looking into it and sent off a drawing to a company that make them but i havent had a reply back yet..I will try them again as i want one too..I was initially quoted from the drawing around 140 smackers which is pretty cheap..I take it your expansion tank is the same as mine..(Ford)...Cheers...Ziga

I can remember seeing, but not baing able to remember who's wedge it was on, if that makes sense seeing a wedge with a nice stainless expansion tank. Anyone else seen it or better still know where to get them from.
Rob
David Gerald do an expansion tank according to the guys on the stand at BBWF..I doubt it's stainless though. They never got back to me.Rob
So I'm still in need of one plastic or whatever as long as it doesn't leak like the current one

Yes, Mark is right, it was on my old wedge that Ralph bought. Wish I still had it as I could do with it on my 390Rob

Not quite stainless, but older BL cars, and some Triumphs, Scimitars etc had a copper expansion tank which can be polished up and looks very neat - may be possible to find one ?
Or am I living in the wrong century now I've been away from Uk for over 15 years ?

Hi Mate..I have emailed the guy as regards to the polished alloy expansion tanks..I will also have a look for any plastic ones..You could always repair the existing one you have, I did it to a previous one i had...I think i used quicksteel...cheers...Zigahttp://www.amazon.co.uk/Quiksteel-Plastic-Tank-Rep...
Found a plastic one but its a bit steep...But then they are like rocking horse shyte.

Or one that needs a repair..Small steel tube and some plastic epoxy putty, Then cap it off as you dont need this particular inlet..

Hmmm.. it does feel that way sometimes, until I look at the price of fresh lamb...and of course the price of unleaded super for the wedge....I reckon he applying for a visa as we speak!!

if it's for lamb, don't bother - those bloody free trade agreements mean that beef here is actually cheaper than lamb - can you believe that ?
I can Baaahh-lieve anything..
I had an email back this morning as regards to custom made alloy expansion tanks..At the moment there is a 3-4 week turn around time as he is very busy, He normally takes an address and card details before proceeding...I might just get one made to make sure the fitting is correct before he works off of the drawing for anyone else..TBC...Ziga
Hi Peeps..im having an alloy expansion tank made and it should ressemble the original ford based plastic type in volume and fittings/fixings..They have a CNC machine and im finding out how much it would cost to have the TVR logo etched into it..Is this something you would like if i get a batch made up?..It does depend's on cost..I will post up the finished unit once i received it..cheers..Ziga
Defo SS, made it myself.
First attempt at TIG welding, helped that a couple of mates have a fab shop, which gave me access to materials and equipment. Filler neck is brass, silver soldered to the SS.
On hindsight I would probably have made the connections a different size, but I just kept them the same as the placcy one that was there originally.

Hi Mate..That look's neat..If its stainless though where did you get the stainless or even steel filler neck as i have searched and all i can find is alloy and brass..Or is brass what you have used?..I didnt think brass would weld to stainless?..Cheers..Ziga
If you don't want to make it yourself would recommend a company called Fusion Fabrication near York http://www.fusionfabrication.com/. Lee has made quite a few bits for me over the last few years. Not stupid money and always does a quality job. He made both the expansion and power steering tanks in the pic below. Cheers Steve
