Hello everyone, thought I'd update you all on the 'teg.

The past few months have been busy, I've spent pretty much every Saturday with the car. This saturday is no differenct as I'll be hammeriting something or hopefully fitting a new engine mount if it arrives.

The things I've done so far:

  • Fitted Tanabe Pro S Coilovers
  • Rustproofed the inner arches
  • Undersealed the full car & arches
  • Painted calipers blaaaaaaack front and rear
  • JDM Manifold, DC Sports decat & centre section with a Janspeed backbox (also have the DC sports backbox)
  • 96 Spec JDM rear bumper
  • Resprayed rocker cover & engine bits
  • Changed the front bumper to a UK spec without the front fog lights
  • Serviced (done the oil twice)
Think thats about it, I've spent pretty much every Saturday since I got it doing various jobs. Pretty happy with how it looks now but still plenty to go!

I used VHT Wrinkle Red to give it an OEM look, I got the paint from eBay.

Looks great, even better if it was on OEM wheels.

Nice. A lot of the same mods I had on mine although mine was a JDM. Best car I ever had.

Well done on swapping the bumper; UK ones are a massive letdown when compared with 96/98 spec ones, Wire your foglight into one of the reverse lights with a red bulb and it'll look spot on thumbup

Lovely looking car. Was an itch I wanted to scratch but I feel I will never be able to.

Out of curiosity, what is the difference between the 96 spec and 98 spec rear bumpers?

Out of interest, why did you go for the Janspeed back box, does it sound better than the DC Sports Item, quieter, a looks thing etc?

I remember reading about the DC sports systems on one of the Type R owners website, a few guys saying they'd had them and they sounded alright but the mild steel construction meant they didn't last like a stainless steel system does. That said, I believe HKS made an exhaust system for the EP3 that had a stainless steel centre section with a mild steel backbox, a sure sign that a decent brand name doesn't always mean you can trust the product.

Curse you Pistonheads for not having a multiquote system yet. It's time for updates

I would've loved a JDM, but insurance said no! Tbh I'm starting to like UKDMs more and more, especially mine of course wink

Funny you should mention that as I was looking into doing it at the weekend! It's happening smile

They were scabby so I removed them. I will get a replacement set but I want to have a full paint correction done first so no point having stickers on before that smile

The 98 spec has a diffuser at the bottom, the same as a UKDM.

If you look at this picture, of before and after on my car, you should see what I mean.

98 spec/ukdm above, 96 spec below.

Without sounding chavvy, the DC Sport was a bit quiet for me. I'm still using the DC sports centre section with the Janspeed backbox, it sounds great IMO. A nice little rasp at around 3k RPM, great VTEC crossover and a nice rasp on over run.

The Janspeed backbox was a bargain too, I paid £30 and it's near enough brand new.

I'll get a video done of my current exhaust, but this was the previous DC Sports setup:

Definitely! One of the reasons I bought the car was to do the 'ring. Going to have my first trackday at Blyton asap.

Funny you should say that as I raised it up a tad yesterday, I was thinking the same smile

I finished my rocker cover refurbishment yesterday.

Apologies for the "instagram'ed" picture but you get the idea smile

That looks awesome. If you've only had it a few months I think I was tempted by that in the classifieds a few months back. Looks WAY better now mind. Oh and the wheels look great too.

Original wheels are a bit small IMO, I'm going for the JDM Spec 98 ones smile similar design but 16".

Need to sort that bumper sag out, I think I might take the rear bumper support bar out and bend it.

And here's a video of the exhaust
