Just wondering as there is no Lexus section on PH, how reliable are the 2003> RX300 gearboxes and air suspension.

I want Nav and the Levinson sound system so i assume i have to get the SE-L model.

Anything else worthy of noting that could be bad?

Cheers.

My parents have had an RX300 for over 3 years I think it is a 52 plate (has a cherished reg on it so I am not so sure) but I do know it hasn't put a foot wrong and from a the point of view of being driven in it it's like an arm chair on wheels.

Someone in my family has one of these (from new) and I don't think he's had any major issues despite putting somewhere in the region of 150k onto it! That said, he's a relatively sedate driver and services it on the dot...

Promising so far then. It is either this or the Nav/Levinson IS250 which is apparently one of the most reliable cars ever made.

On a 250, make sure you get the auto: the petrol/auto combination suits the car much better than either the petrol or diesel manuals.

Mine's been pretty reliable, the generally seen problems are interior rattles, engine rattle for a couple of seconds on startup and corroding alloys.

Our air suspension compressor failed on our 54 plate rx300. Cost was £1500 for new compressor and fitting. They replaced the wiring loom FOC as it had already had a bodged repair on it at the dealer.

Once it was fitted they couldn't get it to settle properly so ended up replacing 2 sensors too... As they had conveniently disposed of the old compressor when we picked the car up I never really found out if it had actually ailed or if it was the sensors... Still, quite high bork potential on the air suspension...

Never had a prob with gearbox but watch out for common faults like the CD player not working and check its had the brake master cylinder recall done as ours was "losing" brake fluid at one point!!

Thanks Rallye. Part of selling the A8 is to avoid the air suspension going, so maybe the RX isn't wise.
