Trip to Germany
Discussion
Gentlemen,
I want to share something with you. I've been thinking over the last few days that a continental driving trip might be in order before the end of the year. Britain's roads really aren't built for Cerberas and the car hasn't had a good stretch of its legs since Le Mans.
A few thoughts began to occur to me. Firstly, I have never driven in Germany, which has obvious attractions for owners of high powered cars. Secondly, I have recently been inspired by flemke's Mclaren F1 threads - particularly his evocative description of doing a number of 221 runs on autobahn near Frankfurt. After taking out a road atlas I then discover that the Nurburgring is fairly near Frankfurt.
I begin to think of a romantic image of waking up near dawn, heading out onto a largely deserted, unrestricted autobahn and hitting the loud pedal until the car will go no faster. Then having a hearty lunch and, with my co-driver, congratulating ourselves on a job well-done. Perhaps then, taking in a few laps of the Nurburgring on the way back.
I may not own my car forever, and unrestricted autobahns and crazy one-way public-road cum racetracks seem to be something which any upstanding pistonheader should experience whilst they still exist.
Am I being rather silly? Should I go to craigw's next Vmax to experience the outer limits of my car's performance on an airfield rather than on a public road? Am I a danger to myself?

Do it! I drove to Germany last year in the Cerbera. You can't beat driving on the continent. TVRs are even rarer, less traffic, better kept roads, petrol is cheaper and normally a minimum of 98 RON for super which ever petrol station you pull in to and loads of uberwagens to blast away

Can you wait till november???? I'll have my car ready by then, and we can all gather interest and go in a big convoy..... ?
Might be a good chance to break in the new pistons and rods, and give the blower a good workout at 200+.... although will have to wait for the transmission job before going 240+... (I wish)...

The runway at Bruntingthorpe is an ideal place to get used to piloting your Cerbera at high speeds without the risk of hitting other cars or armco (much better than experiencing it for the first time on an autobahn).
Oh, and it also provides practice in stopping from such velocities as well.

Jeremy C what are you playing at? You have another 800 rpm till the light comes on and another 1300 till its stops going faster. Don't be a girl's blouse - put your foot down!
Yes, my passenger/photographer took the photograph before we had finished accelerating.
Mind you, we also fairly quickly ran out of runway shortly afterwards.
Still accelerating all the way mind you .... >> Edited by jeremyc on Wednesday 1st September 21:51
Thanks for the encouragement.
SXS - regarding waiting until November, would be delighted to - the objection would be that the weather will be more marginal and less daylight hours. Even the end of September is getting a bit iffy.
Gcerbera - would be delighted to hear about anything you've got up your sleeve.

I used to live in Germany with my Chimera and have not taken the Cerb to the continent yet, but being overtaken whilst doing 140mph by a Brabus Merc (albeit with my roof down at the time). I feel that I need some revenge wif ze Germans. Count me in especially if Graham can link something in. Diff being rebuilt at the moment though so not too expensive please.
I drove to Germany last December. Weather was a bit wet but not really a problem. The only bummer was when one of the windscreen washer connectors melted on the engine. Not being able to see where you're going due to muddy spray stuck on your windscreen (that can't be cleaned off due to aforementioned screen wash issue) lead to some interesting driving moments.

Graham - can you give us any hint as to what you have in mind?
All I can say is it could either end up a one or two day UK only event or
it could be a 3 day European event.
Hopefully I might have some news next week when meetings have taken place
and we'll know if we have the basic event to launch this off.
I'll get back to you as soon as I possibly can.
