gradually getting around to restoring the taimair thats be sat at home in pieces for the last 2 years, (prepares for abuse from mr Ried).............. so

chassis has been blasted and primed, the usual places need new sections welding in, above rear diff etc, but whilst I`m at it are there any areas that anyone can recommend that need a bit of extra bracing, any improvements that can be done?

I plan to use this on track as well, so any suggestions from people who have done anything that will help increase the level of handling ect with regards to the chassis please spill the beans.

Clive the chassis is good for quite extreme track use. Would benefit from a Front ARB increase in size to 1" or 1.1/4" depending on the set up.

Some advise bracing lower wishbones.

thanks John, I was hoping you`d pop up on this one, I `ll be after some info on a later date with regards shocks, what to get for track day use etc.

Always happy to pass what my personal findings are Clive - not always in line with some. smile

The old car has been developed over the years with input from Colin Blower Motorsport and people who restore and prepare historic F3/F3s and I must say it does seem to work quite well.

how about welding some extra strips in for the seats?
normally they are just mounted through the GRP shell?

Clive,

A few extras I welded into mine while it was accessible.

I drilled and tapped pads which I welded onto the top of the rails to attach a roll over cage and seatbelt, or harness points.
I extended the top rear rail to fit a cage to and also fitted an extra vertical directly underneath the cage mount point to provide additional support.
I welded a drilled mounting point to go under the seat to fix a crotch strap for the harness as I found people tended to pull the shoulder straps on the three point harness and end up with the buckle up around their chest.

Ps, You can also see I've triangulated the the rear wishbones, have rear ARB and mounts.

with regards to the bolted roll cage, are you taking it down to the front, fixing on the outriggers?

Mine is a road car with a little track usage, so its just a roll over hoop, over the occupants heads and back to rear for the harness mounts.

I figure its got to be better than nothing, but I am going to remake the hoop to get maximum clearance to the head and get it padded, as It has been discussed before, for occupants without crash hats the roll hoop is potentialy leathal.
