I am about to start a City & Guilds teacher training course. It involves attending a college for a week so have booked a hotel as it's a fair distance to commute each day.

Has anybody been on this course, looks quite an intensive! The last time I studied was 15 years ago when training in the Police! nerdfrown

It's not quite 'teacher training', so level of research, analysis and challenge of current teaching theories is not required. Much of what you will learn is common sense. Where do you intend to work afterwards and with what subjects? Good luck!

Ah ok...
It's for my current job, as I am the Training & Projects Coordinator for our dept.
I have been reading through a mountain of notes...Pedagogy & Anagogy (sp) are terms I have not come across before.

Thanks, think I'll need it!

I used to work with the teacher training team at our place (college)

At a basic level - it's studying how people learn, identification of barriers to learning and methods of inclusive teaching, based around over 16 year old learners.

As a trainer, I can't really see how this is of benefit to you apart from identifying barriers to communication (language use, identification of needs and focus etc.). As you are probably aware, training and teaching are very different. A trainer accredited programme would probably be of more use - especially as the most significant thing that the PTLLS students at our place do is teach, reflect, adapt, teach - stuff which on a one week course you'll be hard pushed to do.

A week of theory might be very dull!

Thanks for the reply.
I run training & group learning sessions. Tbh, its my boss who is requesting I attend this 5 day course, but my company are paying for the course & hotel.
Looking through the pile of notes the course tutor has already sent me, the final day consists of applying what's been learnt & giving a 30+ minute class on a/any subject!
So in your opinion this course is straight forward enough...not to much to worry & stress about? eek
I believe I am only doing level 3, not level 4.
