Hello all...

(Yes, five or so posts in eight months - lurking, it seems, is a tricky habit to get out of...)

Anyway, wondering if the PH Massive could lend me a helping hand. I'm writing a feature for a university assignment debating whether active safety systems - like blind spot monitoring, autonomous emergency braking, etc... - are really necessary, given that a driver should be paying attention and not need such a system to prevent them from having an accident.

I'd be interested to know if anyone's ever had any practical experience of such systems (blind spot alerts stopping you from switching lanes, etc...) on the open road. I've most of the systems fitted to my Focus, although I've never been in a situation where I would have crashed had they not intervened. There have been occasions where I've noticed the car has autonomously applied more braking force than I asked of it, but that's about it, and I'd never have speared off the road if it hadn't.

If anyone's got a story, I'd love to quote you - with your permission, obviously... The piece won't be published anywhere, and I've already got quotes from Ford and Thatcham.

Many, many thanks. smile
