I'll admit as I hurtle towards 50 my motoring needs on a daily basis are changing, been running a modded imprezza for the last 7 years and more, and its dawned on me that doing shift work and returning home in the erly hours its not that sociable for the neighbours and my own senses, and I'd mostly even take the wife's newish meriva to work if I could so it was time for a change and started to look around for something comfortable, reliable, and with some toys for a change, so scouring the net I realised that for not much money I could get a Lexus is200 with lots of goodies which looked promising.
Now generally these don't seem to be well loved on here.but I have to say its chuffing brilliant, full leather, electric everything, traction control, snow button which just reduces the power in Slippy conditions, and a LSD which might help there too air con climate control electric heated and controlled seats mirrors and sunroof (or moonroof to Lexus) smooth (very) silent, OK not brilliant on fuel from what I gather from the 2 liter straight six motor but coming from my Subaru and still keeping the Griffith for summer and weekend fun that's not an issue, and at 153bhp its a lot slower than the scoob, but again I have another car for that, and to be honest when revved it's not that bad in reality and goes well enough when prompted, so picked up this 2 owner 65k sport model the other day, nice colour too as its metallic blue, or officially Antimony, with anthrasite alloys, deffinatly didnt want a silver one and it has an amazing 8 speaker Stereo system as standard which sounds better than the one in my living room ... from what I gather these can run for ever without major problems so looking for issue free comfort motoring for a while yet, considering the condition of the inside and out, the choice and use of fasteners under the bonnet by Lexus are not that good, lots of corroded bolts dotted around but easily sorted for no money and the odd bracket to clean and paint to tidy that part up, but overall very pleased.

I always like these and it does look better with the leather. I remember hearing on the radio years ago that Lexus were repairing kurbed wheels for free under warranty as the dealers were not processing enough warranty claims.

I worked as a mechanic on vauxhall cars for 20 years,at one point the dealer i was at changed to Toyota and we all had to pop down to their headquarters at Redhill in surry for some traing,wandering around the place we were shown a metal container that housed the warrenty returned material, basicly just had a few sets of discs in and a couple of exhaust silencers,asked if that was just theirs and was informed it was the national returns for that week,our own vauxhall dealership would have had lots more that that for the same ammount of time, and working on Toyota revealed why,nothing went wrong on them,from doing a service and genuinly being able to list a fair number of defects on your average cavalier or astra,the Toyotas generally needed nothing,in fact after 6 months i was made redundant due to lack of work/profit, went back to vauxhall and my bonus picked up no end.
Jap cars seem to regulary fill the top spots in reliabilty surveys for good reason,though obviously there are the odd exceptions.
