Changes to Speed Limits
Discussion
Why do we see new limits being introduced on roads where previously the national limit applied?
A40 into London, up until recently the speed restriction started after Northolt, now it has been moved back nearer to Uxbridge, why? I thought perhaps this was a temporary arrangement when they had jets at Northolt for the Olympics, the jets are long gone the expanded limit is not. As you head west the position of the limit has not changed. So can go faster in one direction than the other, where is the logic in that?
B road close to my home, the one interesting bit of road on my commute. Up until recently national limit applied, this week 50 signs sprang up, why? I have been driving this road for decades and have never seen an accident or indeed a near miss.
Is there a process of pre-notification or consultation for these sort of changes who makes them and why?

Usually it's greiving familys that try and push these limits and the councils usually bow.
One road locally to me they're trying to get street lighting down it and reduce it to a 50 I don't see the lights happening! it's a countylane ffs.
I think in years to come the NSL will be 50 aren't derbyshire on about a blanket 50 limit?

But more people were killed on the roads in 2011 than in 2010 so something has to be done. What requires no thought and is cheap to implement? I know, let's reduce the speed limits and then we can claim to have addressed the problem. It seems to be the thought process employed, unfortunately. If deaths dropped this year then it worked. If deaths increase then reduce the limits again.
