Put up a safety camera.

So this "safety" scamera will find out about banned drivers speeding down Stamfordham Road in Newcastle will it? I dont think so, and yet thats exactly what they are doing. Are the people who decide these things completely brain dead or what?

Just placed a comment to the effect -

"How does a speed camera, a device which is designed to take photographs and send notices out to LEGAL vehicles going to stop a JOYRIDER??!?

Stupid no? More traffic police maybe? Stopping the joyriders in the first place perhaps?"

F:censoredk:wits.

I promise that if any of my family / friends should ever fall victim to such a tragedy, I would be SURE that if any press or whatever said it was down to speeding or tried to put a camera up then I would go fking mental.

Any excuse to make money! Just ANY excuse these days.....

I've gone to their website and posted the question on their Q&A suggestions page. Like they are going to publish it.

There must be figures that show joy-riders actually accelerate and try to speed for speed cameras? Wouldn't you?

Don't know why you lot are so surprised.

UK road safety policy can now be summed up as follows:

"The answer's a speed camera.

Now, what was the question?"

It makes me bloody weep, it really does.

Jail for the irresponsible parents that let a six year old out on a dangerous road and a similar jail sentance for the driver. These irresponsible parents are having kids then kicking them out of the bloody house as soon as they can walk. Then when the obvious happens they escape punishment by doing flowers and tears crap by the side of the road. Then they claim compo from the insurance company or injuries scheme. Thicko stupid moron never been on a big job councillors are totally complicit and never see this scam for what it is.

Q. Much of my time when driving is spent watching my speedometer, looking for speed signs, marked and unmarked cameras, speedtraps etc. These distractions all reduce the attention I can give to genuine hazards. How can this aid safety?

A. If you are aware of your speed, then you do not need to be concerned about looking out for mobile or fixed cameras as you will already know that you have nothing to fear from them.

If you drive the same car regularly, it is possible to "feel" the speed without constantly checking your speedo as you will get used to how the car feels at certain speeds.

Also, keeping in third gear rather than fourth in a built-up area makes it easier to keep within a 30mph speed limit.

You should check your speedo as frequently as you do your mirrors, as this enables you to be both aware of the speed you are travelling and any potential hazards.

Travelling within the speed limit gives you more time to react to anything that might occur on the road, such as a child running out.

At just 35mph, you double your chances of killing a child if you hit them than if you were travelling at 30mph.

When you consider a new site for a speed camera, why do you consider all the accidents at that location? Surely a more sensible approach would be to consider sites where there is a cluster of accidents where the sole cause is found to be speed above the ACPO (prosecution) limit. Is the rumour that that you have found no such sites true?
