Car due for replacement in February. I travel 56 miles from Scarcliffe to Lichfield for work so economy is key.
The wife's v6 Alfa satisfies a little of the PH in me. Anyway long story short, the last two cars Ive had a Mercedes c class then a Citroen C5 estate vtr and quite liked the look of the Santa Fe 2013. Turn up at the dealer to have a look. They have one for me to look at but the Director has taken it home....the snotty salesman seemed to think this was OK on a Saturday morning..... Not that a customer might actually want it at the dealership...i asked him to call the director and get it here...it was as if I'd asked for god to make an appearance. No Hyundai for me then...

Sounds very much like the experience I had when I made the mistake of visiting a Hyaundai dealership. I now drive a Skoda. The wife's v6 Alfa satisfies a little of the PH in me. Had you made an appointment in advance or did you just turn up and then expect the director to come in on his day off on the remote off chance you might actually buy one off them in four months time? The wife's v6 Alfa satisfies a little of the PH in me. Hey, take your logic out of here. He's a customer, they're always right. Salesman are scum and should be reprimanded for not dragging a director in to surrender the car immediately.....I would expect a dealer to have the goods they wish to sell available to view. If the salesman had said it was out with a customer then that would have been fine. As a director of a business myself I would have expected the director not to have taken home the only available vehicle AND to return it should he have done so and a customer wished to see it. If I was buying a new TV I wouldn't expect to have to wait for the 'director' to finish watching it before I could view it.

You stated you popped over to 'have a look' in my experience if you were serious you would have made an appointment. It's not unreasonable to expect the dealer doesn't just have a Sante Fe lying around on the off chance, it's not a volume seller like the i30 or i40.If you presented yourself at the dealership In the way you have on this forum, I'm not surprised they weren't interested.

Never heard of making an appointment then?If you'd rung and said 'hi, can I look at that new Hyundai thing tomorrow' then it would have been there.
S'not rocket science.
New TV = several hundred pounds and no franchise agreement stipulating model-mix for demo plan or expectation that employees can enjoy the benefit of (or pay tax on) personal use.
New car - many thousands of pounds. Mfr rules on models to register and demo. Employee's expecting to enjoy private use of the car they pay tax on.
As said, if you had booked an appointment I am certain the car would be there and the Director would have taken an i-something home instead. Just turning up and hoping (or expecting) the retailer to have an example of every model immediately available is naive.

Oh dear oh dear....a dealership has a high street presence. I assume they therefore have some intention of presenting and selling their goods. I don't make appointments to visit any shop... Its of no concern how i present myself to the salesman. What frustrated me was that the car was unavailable because the director fancied taking it home...

As the director, he gets first call in what he drives. If someone wants to see it, he'll take something else, otherwise why not take it? Do you not get any perks as a director??

The director pays tax on it , probably has a stake in the business, therefore technically owns the car. You're right he's got a bloody nerve! You should be concerned about how you present yourself as this will reflect in the service you then receive. You behaved like a t
t and got the response from the dealership accordingly! Not the brightest company director are you?

You're visiting a business with a view to making perhaps a £20,000 to £30,000 transaction. You're not buying a mars bar from a confectioners.

The point, which you missed, was that as a director I have a primary responsibility to my company and my customers. The reaction I was expecting was probably the one I'm getting. My views on customer service are often far more popular with customers than they are with employees.
