Won't always start

Hi
Only had the car a couple of weeks every now and then the car won't fire up
Can hear the fuel pump prime and turns over fine just won't start
Car has aftermarket ecu
When I go back later the car starts fine
Anything to look for

Check the fuses in the engine bay above the battery.

Battery is fine always turns over the engine without a problem just won't start
Should the fuses on the fire wall have a cover on it

no. there will be a small fuse holder (4 fuses) on the frame. open the clam and look down at the battery (drivers side). They will be above the battery on the frame.

Have 4 fuses on the fire wall with a large 60amp fuse next to it these are just above the level of the rocker covers
Are these the ones your talking about
Friend has a 3 which does not have any fuses in the same place

I had a similar problem, it was the red fuse on the left side of the small fuse box.

Those are the ones im talking about. Sorry, not near the car so going on memory only.

It was the 10amp in mine that was blown. (think its second from the right)

Also 5 speed or 6 speed? Does the car start if you bridge the connections on the starter motor?

Car has five speed
Car always turns over so starter motor is working without any problems
Will check the fuses

Im sorry, i should have read the original post properly! the fuse i am referring to was if the car was not turning over.

Still worth checking the fuses. If not, look in the US owners manual, failing that, a call to Jetstream.

remove all the relays behind the rear screen and give them a good squirt of WD40

Omg this thread is funny reading...:-) ... the car turns over, its just not firing up.!!..lol..I think you should also check the windscreen wiper motor and the brake fluid ...

Its the ecu getting moisture in it, move it inside the cabin to keep it dry...

Haha,

Check the seat belts are plugged in too...

Sounds like its probably a relay for the fuel pump failing intermittently, change it first, then check spark plugs.

We're normally more helpful than this! If the engine turns over (battery and starter OK) and ECU is healthy (already moved to cabin), but you have an intermittent starting fault, I'd initially pull a plug to check for a decent spark (flooding, plug gap, coil/HT lead breakdown, possibly immobiliser fault)? If spark looks alright you need to check your fuelling - the map should include some enrichment until lambdas are up to temperature, and idle needs to be set using the software, not the tacho. Are you sure you aren't just flooding it on start?

Ye, if ecu is kept dry, then like last two posts say...:-) ...bulkhead relay, fuelling and spark..

I still have my money on it being the battery though...or a dodgy brake disc...lol

Quick update have had a good look at the loom and plugs relays and fues and found more broken wires than I'm happy with
So looks like new loom time
