I recently ordered a new 3.6 Tuscan, and took delivery mid-April. Have so far had no problems (oh, except for the throttle sticking fully open only 20 miles from the dealership after picking it up!). Anyway, I have only just received the V5 (following a number plate change) through the post and it states that capacity is 3996. I raised this with the dealership who said that they'd look into it before I take it for its first service on Thursday. They indicated that it may have been done on purpose (something to do with emission regs?) or could be an admin error but that they had ordered a 3.6. This all sounds a bit fishy to me.
So, if it doesn't turn out to be a 3.6, should I be concerned? I originally wanted the 3.6 as I thought the residuals of the discontinued model would be affected.
Grateful for any thoughts.

I thought all Tuscan/Tamora engines were 'nudge nudge wink wink' 3.6's but they are in reality all 4.0's?

I certaintly remember someone saying something along those lines anyway.

Matt.

I think the early Tamoras were 4 litres (like Flasher's) but not sure about newer ones.

Let's not get into that again, nothing was proved.
Just think, why would TVR put 4.0l engines in Tamoras when people were still ordering 4.0l Tuscans over 3.6l ones?
Nick, I would say that if you've got a 4.0l then be happy with it as it may give you a better residual over a 3.6l? Best to use the dealer/factory route for official confirmation?
If it turns out to be a 4.0l then you could try and get something out of your dealer as compensation, ie. free service, TVR Performance Technique Driving Day, etc.
Cheers.... Andrew

Just look on the cam covers, the felt tip pen will tell you if it is 3.6, 4.0, RR etc...

whatever

Why not telephone the factory and see if they'll tell you what's inside? In my experience, they're quite amenable to this sort of thing.

Thanks for your comments.

Following the service I was told by the dealers that they had contacted TVR who said that all V5's for the 3.6 Tuscans were coming back showing "3996cc" and it was something that they were looking into.

Has anyone else experienced this?

When up at the factory recently I noticed some engines had the world famous and very expensive badging to depict they were 3.6 litre engines, yes the great black felt tip had been used

Personally I would have thought the bigger engine would be more valuable in the future rather than the fact the 3.6 is still made, as happened to the 4.3 Griffs as against the 4.0 models.

I am hoping that these "non standard" models command a premium in fact!

Graham and a Tuscan Red Rose with an S engine - is that a Red RoseS then???

Don't forget the insurance implications....if you writ it off (god forbid) & an inspector discovers that it is a 4 litre, not a 3.6 then your insurance would be invalid!!!

That's a bit far fetched. No insurance company is going to strip the engine down to prove what size the bore is....

No-one knows the truth about this only the factory and a guy who works for TVR hinted to me that they are all 4.0 engines until they run out, then they will be 3.6 ones.... but who knows? Mines runs fine and is bloody quick so that's all I am really bothered about.
