Porec, Croatia: anybody been?
Discussion
I'd also be interested to know the answer to this, as we went to Porec a long long time ago, before all the fighting anyway, though even then it was obvious one lot hated the other lot.
But it was excellent then and we have thought about going back.
My comments on what to do are therefore not really of much use, but would appreciate an up to date view.

I went a few years ago now - 1999? Just after holiday companies started offering Croatia following the war.
Quite touristy though at least not in a Blackpool tacky kind of way. There's plainly little local employment beyond farming and fishing so tourism is a big thing. Some lovely old buildings, some Communist era concrete monstrosities. Hmm, maybe it is a bit like Blackpool then. Fewer pissed up Brits drinking and vomiting in the street though.
Very pleasant very friendly people, nothing was too much trouble. Mulit-lingual staff so no Basil Fawlty making the foreigners understand English moments.
Food was generally either Italian influenced; local sea food; or the general local diet was was typical mid-European half a cow on a plate with bare minimum vegetables. Obviously this is as it should be for a true PHer but on our tour even the hardened meat-eaters ended up asking me how to get the vegetarian menu.
Beaches tend to quite rocky/stoney but usually have bathing platforms you can lounge and use to get into the water without cutting yourself to ribbons. Water lovely and warm and clear. Watch out for jellyfish. More so, watch out for fat German naturists. Dependent on you feelings regarding the latter, the sign FKK is your friend. Or not.
What else to do? A little wandering around the town though it's fairly small and won't take much doing. Boat trips including Venice though it's a long long day. Various coach trips, take a look in town for local operators rather than signing up via travel co.
Not a huge amount else as I recall. Take books, take suncream, relax and enjoy. I'd go again and did go back to Croatia a few years later - Rovinj a bit further along the coast. There was a bit more going on there though if someone said they had booked me a trip to Porec I wouldn't be disappointed.
