Whilst idly browsing SOTW spec cars, I came across a lovely silver Mercedes C-Class. And then I saw the interior yikes

Who thought that a red dash, pink cloth seats, and dark brown wood would be a good idea? Anyone seen a more badly/ oddly specified motor?

I wouldn't say badly specced (at the time I thought it was excellently speeced) - but weirdly specced.

Back in the day I inherited a slightly odd company car once. It was a 2000 Volvo S40 with nothing in it / on it at all - it was in the most spartan spec you could possibly get.

But it had the most powerful engine below the T4 - I think that 2.0T had about 170bhp and 170ft/lbs or torque. It was a rather rapid motorway car I seem to remember. Nobody wanted it - as a young company rep in pre-co2 taxation, I jumped for it.

In it's flat blue paint and 14" wheel trims (one of which was missing at any given time) it annoyed more than one 318i BMW hehe

It was quite the Q-car. Even the Volvo dealer I used to take it to would laugh and comment that they'd never seen another one specced quite like it and ask if I was undercover plod.

More like 197 bhp for the T4?

Sounds about right - mine was the one below that. The 2.0T. Can't remember the exact bhp, but around 170 I think.

Christ, I'm tired. Yes, you did say that. Wiki seems to say 160 PS for the 2.0 T. A fair chunk more than 318i of the time.

Yup, AT says 163, so in the ballpark.

I had a fuelcard back then as well and would enjoy seeing how long I could make the front tyres fizz when a section of uphill dual carriageway on wet mornings! I really did spank that car daily, feel sorry for whoever got it after I left hehe

The Audi TT's with the brown 'Baseball' leather interiors seem pretty dire. Also, the Porsches with the teal green interior. Where everything is teal green.

Some of the Audi S8 Final Edition models on the D2 platform had some pretty strange interiors. Not so much that the rest of the car was badly specced, but loads of them come with bright red or bright purple interiors - not my thing at all! Quite a few Mondeo ST220's got the vile red leather treatment too.

Isn't that an early prototype of the Spyker?

Good grief, I didn't know footballers bought Audis! Or is it Jordan's?

Yeah, when German car makers get all excited and 'let their hair down' it all tends to go a bit wrong...

"Zis purple is really fresh - so cool and funky, yah?" party

No. Stick to what you do best.

Well that's different purple leather, gray plastic and wood inlays. The purple might have worked with black inlays and surrounds.

My car has red carpet and fake plastiwood on the dash. Not to mention the red piping on the seats.

Having said all that, I rather like it. biggrin

I got my current steed, a w202 c230k Sport, very cheap as even though it was mint it was a manual without leather seats. Nothing wrong with the black cloth seats and the gearbox, while not mx5 sharp ain't too bad. The seller had been trying for 6 months without a single viewer despite plenty of calls.

My gain. smile

Yep.
SE spec = wind-up windows and cassette deck.
