I have an old roofbox, (Jetbag, which I think is actually a very old Thule Model rebadged) with the square U-bolts to fit a narrow, square roof bar

the (original FIAT) bars that I can see on eBay for my Multipla, are the 'aero' style bars, but square ones are available new, and are dearer

so, my U-bolts won't fit an aero bar

there seem to be adaptors that slide into these aero bars, so you've got a captive bolt sticking up, but then there's only one bolt holding on at each point, not two as with the U-bolts

would that be strong enough, bear in mind that's only the plastic base of the roof box holding it?

or just get a square one, or any other ideas?

The Thule t track adapters have a fitting inside the box that spreads the load - you'd need something like that to stop the bolt pulling through the box. Either that or flog your old roof box and buy a newer one smile

This - my BMW bars have the fittings for a Thule box. It works well and cuts down on wind noise.

On my Kamei box it has 2 holes that fix to the sliding track inside. You either use u-bolts or you have a coachbolt type fixing through one hole and the t-track adapters through the other hole, either way then has wing-nut type fixings.

Either way is really secure IMO. Just one thing don't loose the U-Bolts if you do get the t-track adapters. I needed the U-Bolts when my mate wanted to borrow my box but I'd lost 1 out of the 4 and found it almost impossible to get a replacement.

Give "the roof rack supermarket" in Bradford a ring (just Google that for the number).

I would be very surprised if they can not give you the correct info and part numbers, always found them very use full and cheap for new parts.
