Want to buy a couple of 3d blu-rays, but it's just occured to me that i have a samsung Smart 3d TV which is fine, but only a standard Samsung Blu-Ray player, which is about 3 years old. Am i going to be able to watch the 3D blu-rays? Or do i need to upgrade the DVD player aswell?

You'll need a 3D BluRay player I'm afraid. You will also probably find that you won't even be able to play the 3D discs in 2D on your player, but I'm not 100% sure.

On the bright side, most of the 3D films don't seem that appealing IMHO, just cartoons mainly or films that would be ignored apart from 3D effect. I've just ordered a new 3D projector, but haven't bought the glasses and emitter as I know I won't use them, it's purely a 2D upgrade.

So you can get a PS3 that plays 3d Blu Ray now? No mention on Sony UK website.

Might have to be the newer slim version, but I think it was enabled by a software update (I'm not a gamer though, so stand to be corrected).

However, there are 3D players from £60-70 these days, so no need to spend a fortune if the OP doesn't want a PS3.

I've got a slim and it certainly plays 3D.

All ps3 will play 3d.

I'd not bother personally, got a 3d projector and a ps3 and I'm thinking about flogging the glasses and emitter after one meh experience (avatar) if that's the best 3d can manage then I won't bother any further.

That's why I saved the £300 or so for the glasses and RF emitter for my new JVC X35 (coming in about 2-3 weeks smile ). I've seen Avatar (in 2D) on my set up and while my 13 YO enjoyed it I was bored, so I couldn't care less what it looks like in 3D, though I did think it was supposed to be one of the better 3D demo pieces.

I got really fed up with some of the crap films I ordered from my online Blockbuster account and nearly gave up having a projector altogether. Recently I've put more effort into choosing films, watching the trailers on BluRays rather than skipping through them and I've seen some less run of the mill films lately that I've enjoyed.

I'm going o try a few more, and have a go on gt5. But avatar made my eyes hurt, there were a few good effects but it mostly just seemed to be an out of focus background. It's a weird artificial construct. My brain knows A is behind B because of overlays, relative size etc. To do weird depth ings to it just freaks me out a bit.

Which PJ have you got Bullett? I know on my Oppo player and Lumagen VP there are some settings that can be changed to give more 'pop' but not having got a 3D PJ yet and no glasses I probably won't bother trying them out.

Can't help with that...I like the look and higher ANSI contrast of DLP but it gives me a headache in a very short time even in 2D and I can see the rainbow effect pretty much most of the time on moving objects. frown Therefore I haven't much experience or information about them...DILA is another matter, hence the second JVC purchase, I'm improving my viewing room to try to gain some of that DLP ANSI contrast though. smile

It's lovely in 2D. I don't get the rainbow thing at all, although I did see a rainbow via a reflection when I turned for some reason. Not in general viewing though.
My room is a very crudely converted garage (not by me) I'll improve it as we go on but it will do for now.

Oh I don't doubt it: The DLPs I've seen in the past have a great depth of image which LCD/DILA doesn't quite manage as well. I don't know why I'm effected so much by rainbows/headaches, but 3D does the same too.

If it's a converted garage and not your main living room, then I guess you are free to decorate in darker colours too, which must be great compared to a slightly compromised living room set up. If you've ever seen some of the garage conversions on AVForums, where they have put up black velvet and/or black curtains near the screen, they get even more 'pop' from a DLP image. I'm hoping to do something similar, but retractable as some testing with black sheeting showed how much better the image will look.

I'd love a dedicated room, but my RS2000 lives in the garage. smile

Nice car!

I've looked on the forums, some brilliant stuff.
Mine is a double so loads of space, unfortunatly I had to sell my Classic Porsche to fund the house purchase so I'm not in need of a garage at the moment.

Anything exciting will have to live outside so that's no classics and no Caterham.
