2007 Mazda 3 GT vs 2008 Saturn (Vauxhall) Astra XR?

Hi guys,

Before I start, I'm in Canada (Quebec).

Looking for a car upto $11k CAD, doesn't have to be a commuter but it has to handle harsh winters (Can get up to -30C here).

Choosing between these two cars at the moment, I quite like the Astra because they're not very common here but Saturn no longer exists, so I'm not sure whether to be worried about parts or not.

I'm swinging more towards the Mazda as they're more common here.

Any other suggestions appreciated too

A friend of mine lives in Edmonton and has a Mazda 3. It copes with the weather fine.
