Find the doggy smell.

One of our tenants thought it was a good idea to buy two Dogs De Bordeaux (basically donkeys that bark) to keep in his small one-bed flat.

His tenancy agreement of course did not permit pets, but he ignored it. Anyway, I digress, he has now moved out and despite changing the carpets the flat still smells doggy. Not a urine smell, just doggy.

So where is the smell lurking? Probably not the carpets because they are new. The walls maybe?

Any ideas?

Changing the carpets alone won't get rid of the smell.

I looked at a rental a few months ago where the tenant had easily ten cats. There was no getting rid of the smell of cat wee unless every inch of floorboard, skirting, bannister and plaster could be replaced.

Unsurprisingly, I decided to look elsewhere.

Urine smells I have dealt with before. Sealing the timber everywhere sorts it. But the doggy smell? I don't know.
