Some guy in work has just asked this question and I'm unsure of the answer.

His engine and gear box has just gone bang in his 4 year old Audi A3 looking to cost him a shed load of cash. Can he claim on his insurance??? or is it just incediant claims you can claim on??
He only has a year NCB

...just to add, killing the engine and gearbox on a 4 year old audi is going some. What did he do to break it?

Just as I thought, thanks for the confirmation.

I'll suggest he finds a big hill in the middle of nowhere and takes the hand brake off. What would the insurance say then???

To which the insurers query..

What were you doing in the middle of nowhere with a ruined gearbox? (Damage can be examined to see how long its been like that)

Why was the handbrake left off as there is no damage to it?

Depends how the engine got damaged: drive through a flood and hydro-lock the engine and they would pay out, over rev a down change and send a rod through the block and it would come out of your own pocket. Is a bit of a grey area though as to what would be accidental though.
