Just booked a B&B in Chester for Saturday night, and in the small print, it states 'this hotel prefers not to accomodate same-sex groups'

We (3 guys) have just booked a room with three separate beds for after we complete our ToughMudder challenge....can they really be awkward about it?!

I reckon they are just trying to avoid Stag and Hen parties. Give them a call, I'm sure they will be ok.

Thought about calling, but didn't want to bring it to their attention if they were going to be difficult....

...I'm sure it's just a cover note, as mentioned.

Nope, they can get into a LOT of trouble for that. Also, they would have written 'couples' instead of 'groups'. Or 'poofters'.

biggrin

Really? I thought they could discriminate however they see fit seeing as it's their own business.

I don't agree with discrimination but it's their right to turn people away if they want to.

Yes, if they cite being gay as being the reason then it's unlawful. They still have a legal right to turn any guest away if they want to though. The same as a shop has the right to refuse to serve someone.

Good luck with that if the persons affected choose to play any of the various discrimination cards available.

Well that's the state of our great country these days, isn't it.

I've a friend that runs a pub. Whenever someone is barred if they're not white guess what's the first thing out of their mouth when they're being chucked out? Not always, I grant you, but more often than not.

Not surprised really. Probably had the place in a state after some do or another or heard of the same happening elsewhere. I do not think this is anything new going by stories I heard over 20 years ago, you know, rugby club trying to book digs for a tour and having to split into small groups and all that.

Usually it's the race card followed by an apology when they see it's not getting them anywhere and then a plea of letting them finish their drink first.

9 times out of 10 it's that old favourite though, the race card.

Just bring a hooker (female one hehe)to the room, then they can't have any 'same-sex' complaint.

This, a stag do or a lads away trip is likely to be loud lary and potentially leave repair/ cleaning bills.

I'm sure they will be fine if you explain why you are there and its for charity etc...

I've just booked for 3 guys in the Peaks and always mention that we are schoolmates, walking, cycling weekend etc.. Never had any problems.
