4 door classics or not?

for some time i am actually wondering why there are as good as none very expensive 4 door salon classics...
Maserati Quattroporte, Iso Rivolta Fidia, Mercedes 600 (Pullman) you name it, the coupe costs you way more...
or do you know a very expensive 4 door salon?

does this mean that 4 door salons are not going to be the real money or investment makers?

BMW 3.0 SI ...... THE Sports saloon of its era , the 1970s.
Now Almost totally forgotten And criminally underrated, one period magazine stating " The 3.0 SI has the Tractibility of a limo and the performance of a very fast sports car" .

An SI in the hands of Roger Bell, was winner of the 1973 Castrol Saloon car championships. And also did well on the 73 Avon Tour against the monster Camaro of James Hunt.

These cars just have So much going for them, inc a superb comunicative chassis, excellent Power steering , 4 wheel disc brakes, a gorgeous free reving silky 6 cyl motor, a slick 4 speed gearbox, a roomy, very well laid out interior, a cavernous boot, the list is endless. It's trajic that possibly as few as 7 uk RHDrive cars have survived......

It generally depends on whether or not the car was also offered in a coupe. There's lots of Classic European 4 doors that are very collectible. My beloved PA Vauxhalls, Mk2 Fords, Rover P5 and P6s.

But very valuable ones? Here's the king of valuable post-war 4 doors:



1957-58 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham. Mint ones with the vanities still intact can bring up to $200,000. These are one of the most valuable 1950s Cadillacs, probably only a 1953 Eldorado is more valuable. However this car is very much the exception to the rule.

Nicest 1960 Lincoln 4-door on the planet? Maybe $30,000 if the car is a 100 point car. If it's a Coupe? $50,000. Convertible? Triple that.

Oh, then there's some of those Aussie Musclecars from the late 60s where a Coupe wasn't offered.. now that I think about it a Phase 3 GT HO XY Falcon was, at one point, a $700K+ (Australian) car but I am told that the bubble has burst and they're still worth $3-350K Aus.

So that must be the most valuable, more so than the Eldo Brougham.

I believe that the original 1974 4 door Aston Martin Lagonda V8 is worth about 10x what the regular 2 door V8 is worth. That's purely down to its rarity (7 built).

Bonhams sold one at auction this year for GBP 337,500

That must be a contender for most valuable 4 door classic of the "modern" era.

Most valuable of all time must be one of the 4 door Bugatti Royales.

good to see that Aston very nice one, but really it does surprise me that, yes you can buy a nice and quick older/classic 4 door car but not as often as the coupe they go above 60k or even way more. so this Aston of 350k might be one of the most expensive 4 door around... but the 2 door would have been many time more...

Now, does this mean the 4 doors have still potential, or is it allways going to stay like this?

This that makes me struggle to buy an Iso Rivolta Fidia or not... i like to buy and keep it.
It is kind of my game to find the rare ones but they need to increase in value )) yeah... my kind of fun

And like a lancia thema 8.32 or the Lotus Carlton and so on... nice and rare but value is low and costs are therefor relatively high... and i dont see any movement in the prices of these cars...
That makes me struggle to buy them.

gosh, not a real looker but a real massive price.
so that bubble might have plop, but all in all i think that currently the classic car prices are doing very very well.

Economies have issues but prices of rare cars go up..

I wouldn't get too hung up on the number of doors a car has in relation to its value. Of course a mass-produced classic 4 door saloon will usually be worth far less than its rarer 2 door coupe brother (if it has one). However, there has always been a few special versions of 4 door saloon cars, which will always retain a higher value. Many of these are posted above.

One thing to bear in mind is the market for classic car enthusiasts with families. I fit into this category. Having owned a 2 seater classic for 14 years, the advent of two children meant that I was just not using that car anymore. So I looked around for a fast and rare classic 4 door alternative. There aren't actually all that many options around, but if you do find something special like the above suggestions and in mint condition, I am sure you won't lose any money on it and you'll be able to enjoy trips out with other members of your family or friends.
